I'm guessing it's probably just something to do with Trade Hangout or some script that prevents people throwing hats (by making it not part of humanoid) either way, potential fix idea :o

Three images, first is the standard look and the other two are the fixed look I had for a single life. |

You don't seriously think it's because of the sunlight (or ToD) do you?
Either way, to prove against that: /ihEgJIx.png
Humanoids use separate textures (composite), looked into it in the past. I'm not questioning the why of how this happens but simply how it didn't happen for that one life...it would have had to have not been part of the humanoid texture. |

Essentially, for characters to render as they do they have to use a separate texture as to when items are simply on their own. These textures group all the items and put it under one singular texture. This texture is what breaks ice crown.
Therefore character wearing IC's are broken, IC's on their own are not.
Somehow for one single life at Trade hangout it wasn't broken when part of my character.
More likely than not some script preventing you from throwing your hat by taking the hat out of your character and somehow welding it to the head while in workspace (not sure if possible). |

| Oh, the second and third pics are what it's supposed to (but doesn't) look like. The way IC currently is, is broken. The second and third pics show it not being broken for a single life. |

No, it is not fixed on the website.
The fixed look (going back to 2008-2010) would be like this:
http://www.roblox.com/I-dont-have-an-ice-crown-item?id=26861109
That was the original intended look. Dynamic lighting and reduction of humanoid textures both broke it partially though (Realistically, it was the meshes fault which lead to half the issue with dynamic lighting) |

it looks fixed on your avatar until you hit the 3D button then it gets dark and broken. I guess the character has to be rendered with that 'one texture' you were talking about.

It appears broken simply for the reason it's on the character. Once the hat goes on the character it uses a separate (reduced) version of the texture.
Simply have a version of the hat by itself and it'll look fine: http://www.roblox.com/Rendering-comparisons-place?id=172007829 |
