Why do most people tend to dismiss the legitimate opinions of real, living, breathing human beings who happen to be children, simply because "they're only young, they don't know what they're talking about"? Children do not simply become sentient at a certain age. Children are as capable of thought as adults are.

Also, why is it that when an adult asks a child a question, when the child responds it is considered "talking back"? The adult asked the child a question, so they clearly want a response from the child, but when they get one they complain about "talking back"?

No, I have not fallen out with my parents. Why do you assume that? My issue is with the entitled adults who think that just because they are older, they are superior.

Neraj, I am trying to make a valid point here. Namely that children are and always have been sentient beings who are capable of thinking for themselves and formulating responses for themselves.

Politics? You don't pay taxes yet, government don't care.
Don't wanna do something your parents tell you? They pay for nearly everything for you.

You won't know how hard life truely is until you're on your own.

Even though I questioned this once (when I was 10), I find the claim that children deserve freedom of speech is completely rediculous. Besides, people too stupid to use protection obviously need ALOT to make themselves feel better about themselves, and talking down to people younger than them is probably one way.

the older generation dumbly dismisses the ideas of the younger generation even though we have experiences and challenges they didn't face. our voice is seen as less than though.

FYI: It is proven that the average human does not develop theory of mind until he or she is four years old. And humans also are fully psychologically developed at the age of 25, usually.

Anyone who is under four years old really has no clue whatsoever about anything. Their opinions are as valuable as a chicken's. A dog is more intelligent than a lot of people under four, and so even an adult dog's opinion may be more valuable than a two year old human's.

I say that people's opinions matter more the more developed their brain is. The last part of the brain to develop is actually the part that mostly makes rational decisions and thinks logically. So a teenager may be very intelligent academically, but still make illogical choices such as texting and driving. Because that one part of the brain isn't developed yet.

Anyone under 25 should honestly not be allowed to vote.

i am saying just because they were teenagers once too, doesn't mean they understand our minds. Generations have passed and society has evolved too. i am not saying make children government leaders and teachers but just listen to what we are saying and try to understand our views.

I was with you until you brought up the voting.

If I can be drafted and sent to another country, then I better be able to vote for who sends me there.

@Zech: You shouldn't be drafted under the age of 25 either.

I disagree with everything regarding 25.

I'm on my own, I pay my taxes, I'm only 18.

Why shouldn't I be able to vote when I'm a contributing member of society?

Rights come with responsibilities. Hence why you can emancipate yourself in the US and have most of the rights of a legal adult.

Actually there are reasons why people under 25 should be able to vote,
For example teenagers have more morals than adults, they can clearly see what is good and what is bad, adults are often in the good/bad area. Morals aren't unimportant, it helps people to do the right and good decision.

The part with logical thinking is correct, it develops slowly. For example it's very easy for me to solve math tasks which are hard for a 8 years old. But i doubt that logical thinking must be fully developed to decide what people's should lead a country. Logicial thinking is required to understand how system's work and it's enought to understand how the leading system works if you want to vote, this doesn't require a fully developed brain, which is made to study mathematics or to learn the grammar of 5 different languages.
