and my school things technology the you use twice a year is more important than buying less than 1000 dollars worth of calculators [not much for a school].

So it made a 5 minute math test a 45 minute math tests, doesn't help that the kids who took the teacher's calculators took about 40 minutes to finish and he ran out before I could get one

Sounds like my school

They spent money to give every middle school student in the district a chromebook and highschool iPads, however due to so many people on the D5 network at once the internet wasn't able to handle it and would keep going on and off for a week.

Doing it without the usage of an electronic device is very beneficial as you'll have to revise your thoughts consistently to get a plausible answer.

What is the point of a math TEST if one uses a calculator, again...?

Last time I checked, tests are supposed to, you know, test one's skills...

After elementary school, you can throw the manual steps of multiplying and dividing out the way. Better get used to a calculator.

There's actually plenty of excellent ways to manually calculate numerical operations without utilizing a calculator.

You simply have to determine a method that you prefer and find ways to utilize it to your advantage well.

It was Algebra 1 - 8th and 9th grade level math.

While I admit, it was very annoying doing 20 problems in which about 5-7 of them are at all accessible without calculators, the rest took about 5-10 minutes worth of uneven dividing.

The only time I need a calculator (aside from many of the special functions offered solely on graphing calculators) is to multiply or divide decimals. I can do just about everything else without a problem, but my laziness encourages me to use a calculator on things like long division so I don't have to bother.

What's great is being raised without a calculator in the elementary level through middle school. Sadly I wasn't, however I have a good friend who was and his mental math is superb.
