Greetings, Legate. Rome has never been stronger than it is now. Stretching far north to the dreaded island of rebellions: Britain. Then further east to the borders of Germania and to the Syrian coasts. Iberia also bends its knee to the immortal rule of Rome. Greece, Thrace, Dacia? No matter, Rome holds all of these lands as equals in their servitude to Rome.
But now -- the barbarians are once more at the gates, and this time they are more vicious and demanding than before. They stand in droves, tearing down the foundations of our glorious empire, village by village, town by town -- city by city. It is time that this pathetic horde of mongrels is silenced and executed before they can damage any more of Rome's eternal infrastructure. To do this, my legate. They need you. The people need you. The Senate. Needs you. Alas, dozens of legions fall by the day as the horde increases in size as it spreads. Open rebellion is now as common as the common cold, as if they earned the right to be free. The barbarians thrive like the vermin they are, and soon they will be stronger than individual legions. Only half the original numbers continue to serve Rome like they should, the others will not stop until they are exterminated -- permanently.
Sadly, the Senate has restricted direct invasions of Barbarian captured lands on the basis that the Legions cannot be spared on assaults that have no reliable sources for information. And so, Rome has been forced onto what it has always done as the superior method: The defense. The defenses have been shored on all fronts, battles have been fought and won, or lost. The territory is shifting and casualties are mounting. The Senate are fools, if this method is continued, then the defensive line will shatter entirely and the barbarians will destroy all that Rome has created. However, to disobey them is unfathomable.. Never-mind that. Your duty is to Rome, and therefore the Senate, banish those thoughts. Return to your legion and hold the line against the Barbarians..
--VARIOUS FACTS, ETC--
-Staging Coups-
Staging a Coup is a dangerous and long task, in this scenario in which you declare yourself as the rightful Emperor. All Legions with the status 'Loyal' (Both player and non-player) will immediately be given orders to silence you. Unless your legion is an experienced army from dozens of barbarian assaults, expect your defeat and immediate crucifixion.
In the scenario where most legions defect, then multiple Senatorial Armies will be formed. Senatorial Armies are essentially Legions with increased training, awesome purple dye that will make you jealous for some reason and utmost loyalty to the Senate and the Emperor. If these armies are defeated, then Rome is certainly within your grasp.
--The Antagonists--
Barbarians are essentially the main antagonists, treaties and alliances cannot be established with these factions.. UNLESS you declare independence ON THE SIDE OF THE BARBARIANS. Whilst they outnumber the Romans, they are inferiorly trained and equipped. There is a wide variety of different categories:
-Grass Nomads-
These hostiles focus on heavy shock cavalry and ranged cavalry, expect large armies of them to be mounted on horses.
--Germanic Hordes--
These hostiles focus on melee, the prominent amount of their forces shall be made out of axe wielding bandits that are backed by archers.
--Celtic And Britannic Hordes--
These hostiles are the most basic, specializing in none and having equal numbers of all. They have higher morale than all other enemies.
--Lost Legions--
Lost Legions are the most deadly, these men are the Legions that have deserted to found their own kingdoms with their own might. They are equal to any single legion, battles against them will result in heavy losses, and thus is advised you use a greater deal of tactics.
--Rome-- (Legions that have rebelled ONLY.)
Rome will be your greatest enemy if you choose to betray your people in search of your 'own kingdom'. In the end, if you rebel, you will never be given time to reorganize your army as assaults will be endless.
--Rules--
1, You control a single Legion, not Rome and not the Senate. You cannot directly force other players to do your bidding.
2, No, your legion isn't an army of superhumans. They'll rout and be destroyed by all kinds of charges and attacks. You must rally and inspire them in order to prevent
3, Political Intrigue is a common theme.
4, No metagaming, you don't know the position of the Barbarians and you don't know their numbers.
5, Assume that everyone whom isn't Roman hates you and wants to kill you, no alliances can be formed with local peoples.
6, What I say.. um, goes?
7, Not every player can agree to launch a coup together. If you do, then, automatically, to prevent you from getting along and surviving easily, your own insecurity will cause your alliances to fall.
8, Your spoils of war must be divided equally, failure to do so will result in Legion morale dropping and their hate of you rising.
9, Legion rivalry between players must be established for authenticity.
