The seconds turn to minutes. The minutes turn to hours. The hours turn to days. The days turn to weeks. The weeks turn to months. The months turn to years. The years turn to decades. The decades turn to centuries. The centuries turn to millenia. The millenia turn to aeons. And in all this time, life on earth rolled along. Earth continued its eternal cycles. Humans thrived, built megastructures, explored the universe, and achieved things many people from the early years wouldn't have dreamed of. But, as their technology evolved, so did the humans. In the year 15429, a select group of superintelligent humans separated themselves from the average, subpar minds of the world by erecting walls, triggering the event known today as the "Transhumanist Separation." Within the walls are luxuries medieval kings dreamed of having. Anything a man could want lay within. But, the resources had to come from somewhere, so they took it from the land, draining the resources from the rest of the world, pouring it into their own. While men lived like kings in the walls, people lived like roaches outside of them. To make sure nobody of meager-mindedness ever entered, the transhumanists superheated the barriers, so that coming even within 40 feet of the barrier would cause you to receive fatal burn wounds in seconds. Thousands of years passed, and the brilliant minds of the town of Utopia created new generations, all smarter than the last. All citizens of suffrage had to pass an exam average minds wouldn't even dream of solving. The penalty for failure would be death. And in the year 23984, the first generation of the new species of Posthumans left Utopia. Of course, the humans on the outside evolved as well, but without the unnatural selection system available within the city of Utopia, they didn't get far compared to the Posthumans. Posthumans were smarter, healthier, better. The Posthumans, wanting to make a life for themselves in this world - which, in time, slowly regrew to its former state by the time the posthumans left their city - used their advantage of intelligence to enslave the "Baselines," what the Posthumans refer to normal humans as. They built cities, new technologies, and new lives on the backs of Baseline manpower. They built space stations, Ringworlds, and Dyson Spheres around the universe with the metal mined by Baseline hands. You are one of these Baselines.
---Places---
-Sun: The Star Earth orbits, and the "centerpoint" of the universe. In other words, all distances are determined from this point. -Earth: The origin Point of humanity. It is about 0.0000158 light-years from the sun. --Utopia: Located on Earth. The origin city of Posthumanity. Located at what used to be known as the Island of Sicily. --Bartholomew Plantation: Located on Earth. The largest plantation in the universe with Baseline slaves, as well as containing the most Baseline slaves. Hubert Bartholomew, a rather burly Posthuman, runs it. It is located in the area of what used to be known as Spain. --The Survivors' Den: Located somewhere on Earth. A legend amongst Baselines, it is said to be a place escaped slaves live as a community to defend against the Posthuman menace. Nobody knows what it looks like, where it is, or even if it truly exists. --Hailton: A very large colony consisting of millions of plantations and factories, resembling somewhat of an 1800's America. In what was formerly known as Southern Austrailia. -The Alpha Ring: The first ringworld constructed by Posthumans. Encircling the Red Dwarf, Proxima Centauri, it is 300000 miles in diameter and 1 mile thick, and has one 656th of the surface area of earth. due to the ring surrounding the sun so closely, a supercoolant bubble insulates the ringworld. It is 4.2 light-years from earth. --The Killhouse: Located on The Alpha Ring. This is where any Baselines that are not enslaved go. They are made to do pointless, labor intensive drills until they throw their backs out. At that point, they then execute you (with one of a variety of ways) and throw you into a pit. After being here for a day, you'll wish you were enslaved. --Dawn Town: Located on The Alpha Ring. In this town is several small plantations that form a community, with each plantation supplying some form of goods or service. This is the most highly concentrated area of Baselines in the universe. --Fyre's Cabins: Located on The Alpha Ring. The largest plantation on The Alpha Ring, This place supplies most of the world's labor intensive crops, including tobacco, cotton, indigo, and so on. --Caroline's Hollow: Located on the Alpha Ring. A ghost town formerly inhabited by free Baselines until the killhouse was built. Now, only echos and a few old bottles of gin in the bar remain. -Mars: A planet neighboring Earth. It was colonized fairly Early in "modern" human history, at around 3956 AD. In 10121, a strange, incurable disease struck it, and nobody ever returned to it since. It is 0.0000241 light-years from the sun. -Pluto: The farthest planet from the sun in the Sol System. It was colonized by humans around 10130 after humans realized Mars, at this point, was a bust. The humans that went there never came back, but did communicate every once in a while to say that they were okay. It is 0.000625 Light-years away from the sun. --The Bubble: A glass dome colony on pluto, with a steel frame supporting the weight of the glass. After the whole Posthumanity debacle, they decided to not send messages so to send the impression they were eradicated, possibly by a disease similar the one on Mars. They are, however, a colony that still thrives today. This is another place many Baselines strive to reach someday.
---Gameplay---
The Gameplay for this edition of Obedience is primarily Action & Consequence. Every move you make, every step you take, every fist you swing will have a consequence that follows, which will be decided by logic, and, in rare cases, dice. You will also rate your attributes on a scale of 1 to 10. The attributes to rate are listed on the character sheet.
---Rules---
1. No matter how powerful you want to be, you're still only a baseline. No Godmodding. 2. Teams of multiple people are allowed as long as you: 2a. all address to me that you all are teammates, 2b. all agree on the team, 2c. and all start in the same place. 3. Romance is a no-no, and ERP is DEFINITELY not allowed. Keep the snake in skates. 4. You only have control of your actions. The consequence is up to me. 5. You only control yourself. I will fill the role of every other character. 6. Be reasonable with your stats. 7. I won't even dignify troll behavior with a response. 8. Don't hate; mediate. Resolve your problems in a calm and polite manner. 9. If you actually read these rules, identify the mitsake when posting your CS. 10. Golden Action/Consequence Rule: only post one action at a time so I can respond to it with a consequence. 11. This is Science Fiction, not Fantasy. No magic, no dragons, no spirits that come to you in the night, etc. 12. Fill all CS fields. 13. Application times are from 10/5 at 9:45 PM EST to 10/6 3:30 PM EST. Acceptance notices will be handed out shortly after that period.

| A backstory that spans thousands of years into the future isn't something within the suspension of disbelief for me |

---Character Sheet--- [I think sign-ups are still open. If not, oh well.]
Name: Erin Grazer
Place: Bartholomew Plantation
Age: 19
Gender: Male
IQ (Somewhere between (your rating for INT-1) x 20 and INT x 20): 136
Appearance: He's not a very attractive person, with different colored eyes, one being a murky green, the other a watery blue. Beneath them are black circles, and above them rest two dark eyebrows. He has a military buzz cut on the top of his head, with tiny black hairs showing. His skin is albino pale, and has many pink-ish scars along it. His nose looks as though it's been broken at least a couple of times. His lips look really pale, and are often cracked. From an accident while working, he got the left half of his face burned partially, giving it a waxy look, and pulling his features slightly out of shape. His frame suggests he has atleast some strength, although he stands at a short height of 5'5.
Clothing (pick something like rags or peasant clothing): Decent looking gray pants, held together by slightly frayed strings. It was stolen, of course, from another who die d from an 'accident'. It's easy to see it's not his originally, as it's about two sizes too long in length, covering his feet if need be. The shirt is gray as well, and has a permanent smell of sweat to it, along with being rather faded. It fits him well enough, suggesting either he got it handed to him, or he found someone close to his size and took it.
Personality (Most Baselines are depressed and shallow from enslavement, but who knows, maybe you're all peachy about this situation!): He's a more quiet type, always finding other things to keep him occupied than conversation. He can best be described as uneasy to be around, due to staring at people a lot, and often speaking in an aggressive or apathetic tone. He's not one to help others, unless he can see some sort of use for it later on. That being said, he always keeps track of those who have helped him, or harmed him. He's one to repay favors.
Backstory (Maybe add a bit about your family?): His mother was taken off to the kill house shortly after birthing him, due to the immense amount of damage birth had apon her, along with the weakness that followed. His father was a strong man, and still even today slaves away, and most likely will for many a years. He has no other siblings, being the only child after three miscarriages.
The burns on his face come from a fight in his teenage years between him and a baseline over some food. The fight had taken place near some torches, and during the fight Erin had his face pushed into one. Afterword, he was left there, while the baseline took the food. Shortly afterword, said baseline went missing, thought they did coincidentally have an abundance of meat the next few weeks.
Stats: [I think perhaps 5 for each stat would be a good baseline, giving me a starting value of 40. The points are distributed below.]
Strength: 6 Vitality: 4 Perception: 4 Intelligence: 7 Cunning: 6 Agility: [I don't see the difference between you and Dexterity. I'll assume this is more to the speed section.]6 Dexterity: [I don't see the difference between you and Agility. I'll assume this is more of a reflexes feel.] 6 Charm: 1
It must of been a mistake, I tell you! A simple mitsake! |
