The cold northern air enveloped the travellers like a vice, sharp and filling as it weaseled its way into every crevice and between every crack in their furs. The detour into the frozen wastes was unexpected and unwanted, but at their rear they faced the impending mercenary armies of a prince with too much gold and too little to lose. Of course, it wasn't long before the wagons snared on the uneven surface of the jagged, snow-blanketed ground and the animals either ran or were quickly consumed by the wayward group, serving little other purpose now that the wheels were rotted and torn.

They sat, huddled around irregular fires made of whatever material could be scavenged, the icy fingers of wind creeping down their coats and slipping into suits of armor, settling in like unwanted houseguests. The smoke was whipped about, like a flag in the biting and clawing winds as another pot of soup boiled. They had plenty of provisions, provisions enough to last them the entire journey that was cut short. It wasn't starvation, or even the iron of a raider's axe, that would cut them down.

It was the cold.

Notes:
The time period is medieval. Magic and races allowed, and you may have a wide variety of backgrounds and reasons to have joined the trip. The group is an expedition of sorts, though not to the north in particular, and many different types of people with various backgrounds were allowed to join. Little is known about the wastes themselves, other than that they are incredibly cold and filled with odd packets of ruins, some magical in nature. You may describe yourself either through sheet or paragraph method, merely be sure to include information that others would know about you. Message me with expanded details, if you wish. Your primary goal is to avoid death. How you go about this is up to you, though ultimately, escape from the north is the best way to avoid death at the moment. You are free to make up what lore you wish, though use common sense. Questions may be directed at me as you please.
And, finally.
I lied that the cold would be the only cause of desmise.
There are far worse things that lurk in the snow.

Lorton sat extremely close to the fire, his long arming sword laid across his lap and a whetstone in his hand. With an almost threatening intensity he set about sharpening his blade, its silvery length alight with the orange glow of flames. Lorton's mouth twitched, and his work stopped. He lifted his hand up to his face-mask, scratched the frosted, patchy beard developing there, then lowered it back down. His work continued. The flames continued to dance brightly in front of the man, yet despite how close he was to them, they could not seem to ward off the chill that had cut through layers of fur and mail. The frost covering his furs had melted, yet the cold was still there, down to the bone. The cold was always there, despite what warmth Lorton tried to conserve. Grunting, he focused his attention back on sharpening his blade.

Lorton had an average height and build, even if the layers of fur and chainmail made him look like a giant. His sharp features and dark hair were covered completely in a fur wrapping and face-mask. He was still slumped over, working at his sword. His heater shield, a plain old thing, lay face-up close by. The green cross it displayed was faded and dim. As a hired guard, the Hake was really just like any hired cutthroat. His defining trait was that he could ride.

I can ride? Going to need a damn horse first, eh? he thought to himself. He still remembered how his horse had died, crippled by the snow. The only thing he had now was his purse, his blade, and his shield. Pay would only be awarded to him if some of his fellow members made it back alive. With the cold, he doubted they would.

So uh, no CS? Is it just one of those jump-in roleplays?

I usually prefer a paragraph intro, but a CS will work too.
Guess we do things different in the Roblox forum.

Alissa Vanderbell, an elven mage, looked over at Lorton, another member of her expedition. He looked preoccupied. She grimaced as another burst of cold blew across the camp. Her magical robes did little to stop the cold, though they did keep her warmer. She got up, gripping onto her staff for support. She had a limp in her right leg, after a magical accident some years ago. She started to draw a long circle in the snow, around the camps. When she was done, she knelt down, murmuring a few words. After a brief flash of light from her staff, the cold wind seemed to stop blowing into the camps, though it was still freezing. She made her way back over to her campfire slowly, sitting down on the log she had been sitting on.

(Welcome to the party.)
"Thanks miss." said Lorton.
"Although, it's only a wee bit of time before soups ready and we move on."
Lorton put his grindstone in his 'satchel' and chuckled.
"I heard there are some ruins along the way to provide some shelter."
Lorton began to rub his 5 O'clock shadow. "Always heard there were beasties there though."
Lorton then returned to the task of inspecting his sword.

(( Danke. ))

She shrugged. "A rest from the wind is always a good thing," she said, and looked out across the wastes. "But solid shelter is better. Any idea what type of beasties?" she asked, glancing back at him, her white hair settled around her shoulders.

I coughed like a sleek child hiding in the frozen forests. Some would say I am. I looked upon myself to get a glint just of, who, I actually am. God forbid, I was lost. I patted the trees in a feeble sign of gesture to the tree itself. I was lost. I realised I was in amour. Very heavy armour. I slowly walked to an alternate tree, looking back every two steps. HUGE footsteps. Snow patted on me like storming rain.

Hell.

"Never sure in these lands, but ye got the usual skeleton and goblin."
Lorton then looked up, a new seriousness on his face.
"And then they got the cave of the Ice Lord. They say he brings this cold upon us and anyone who speaks his true name will freeze from the inside out in the matter of seconds."
Lorton then laughed. "Although rumors are rumors, we won't face such a thing."

(( So we have a half-orc, possibly? Or maybe a giant/half-giant? ))

"Ah, so nothing to scary or difficult," she said, looking over towards the cook. He had just finished the soup, and people were lining up to get some. She waited, as the warmer soup was always at the bottom of the pot. Alissa's eyes showed the strain of no sleep for the past couple of days, keeping constant wards up to keep the unwanted out.

The snow crunches softly beneath my leather boots. 'Okay, remember as much as you can, a sign of hypothermia is memory loss,' I think to myself. All right, what was I wearing? A long brown trench coat made of bear-skins, woollen gloves, leather boots, woollen bandanna over my mouth... Gods, I'm wearing three layers and I'm STILL COLD. I clutch my crossbow as I clomp through the snow like a clown.

"Be a good girl and make me a sammich? *Turns into sammich*"

After miles of treading through the cold wasteland, often overcoming narrow rivers and waterlogged palaces in great worry, I came across a silent town. I sighed to myself. It's funny, because, at this moment in time, as I tell my story I felt a sort of paper itching my thighs. It came to me instantly that with ease, I would open the lower part of my armor, and I reached down to my thighs, very tedious, however, I managed to grab what seemed to be some paper wrapped with a pen. I seem to like that. I sit down against a large, brotherly slab of stone, and begin to write.

Winter, Winter,
Oh what do we owe,
To such a bestowing foe?
With all righteousness,
All forgiveness,
It seems every year,
We come taken back,
To the taverns of d---runken men,
And the inns of caved.

You may fight us with stones,
Sticks and words,
However, it seems, every year we flee.

I seemed to run out of the black thing inside the furry one.

Lorton finally decided to put the sword in the scabbard.
Since he was paid to keep these people safe in the expedition the cooks made sure he got some food. People tried to complain on occasion but stopped when Lorton saved them from a wolf or something.
Lorton poured a scoop into a bowl and returned to a patch of dirt where he scooped the ice from. "It's good, but the meat is bland. Reminds me of home." Lorton laughed to himself as a couple people looked on in confusion.

"Where are you from?" she asked, standing up with the aid of her staff. It was a large, gnarled branch, about two meters in length. She made her way over, getting a bowl of soup for herself, and taking it back to her seat. She sat down, beginning to eat and looking over at Lorton. Unlike him, she had been brought upon this expedition not only for her combat skills, but also for her knowledge.

I woke up again, the leather stuck to my face itching me tediously. Ugh.

''To what do I owe to such a bestowing foe?''

I don't know where I am, I'm cold up to my chin, and I think my nose is going to fall off. Psst? What was that? Great smoke heaved itself in the face of the frost from the great stone tavern. I was envious. With great difficulty, I heaved myself upon such 'welcoming' gestures, and set my way to the boundaries of the town.

''To what do I owe such presence, sire?'' A guard in simple leather came up to me, his eyes falling upon my dragon-like crest which slept against my breast. ''Eh?'' I looked up at him at cold dread, the smoke of the tavern opened itself onto my nose, only translating into more restlessness. ''May your royal presence be explained in such humble lands?'' The paper itched me again. I grabbed it, in the same disturbing method, much to the guard's disgust and looked behind it. But before, the word royal struck a bell. I remembered looking back at the crest. Dragons. Red Dragons. The back of the series of papers said,

''Prince Charleton of Findelandia [mind this name?],
I simply can not go through it anymore.
I am tired of the waged battles within my own.
My mission is to establish a militia to take back what is rightfully mine.
God bless.''

I remembered. I dug my metallic toes into the great feet of snow and turned back to my position. ''With all respects, humble one, may I be gone?'' He slightly nodded and moved back.

A balding dwarf edged nearer to the fire. A chill ran down his back at the mention of the Ice Lord, for this dwarf, in spite of his confident demeanor, was a superstitious one. He was no stranger to the rumors of the Ice Lord, and for a long time he had stalled his migration north, for fear of encountering such a character. But he'd resolved to move north anyway; as a merchant, he had to pursue the crowd- and pelts of the south-eastern Bruill bear were currently in high demand in the northern territories.

Lief was a stout dwarf with a gleamingly bald scalp and a beard thick as Bruill fur and red as the flames leaping from the small fire that struggled to gain substance in the frozen resistant tundra.

(I don't know if it's just me but posts just appeared all over the place.)
(Accepted to all.)
(Most of the time I would like a message before a special event, and most of the time I would allow it.)
(Also, we are RUNNING from the mercenary army. They are leaving destruction in their wake and they are the reason we are in the cold.)

Lorton responded. "I yield from Carthis, far ways off. Lorton didn't like Carthis though." Lorton chuckled again "Never liked the aristocratic life."

Alissa glanced over at Lief. "You've been quiet this expedition, dwarf. Something on your mind?" While she didn't hate the dwarves, like some of her race, they still weren't the best of friends. While waiting, she drew small symbols in the snow. The flashing momentarily, giving off small charges of heat.

Lorton started to speak in a raised tone. "All right everyone, 10 minutes until dinners end and we begin to move! Don't want to get caught by the scouts do we?"

"I guess not," she said, looking up at him. She pushed herself up. "I can make the camp disappear quick enough. Just give the word when," she said, coughing a bit from the cold. Pulling out a small crystal, she brought it up to the crystal at the top of her staff. It flared, consuming the small crystal in her hand. While resting was a good way to regain magical energies, rest was something she hadn't had the past few days.
