This cliche appears in the movie adaptations of The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Maze Runner:
When a major character gets a fatal injury from a ranged weapon, usually a gun but sometimes a spear or an arrow, they will not react until they touch or otherwise fall attention to the wound, then fall to the ground, followed by death. |

Human instincts. When one is shot long-range but not fatally, its instinct to get out of the line of fire and run (or fight). After safe, the 'instinct' drive shuts off, knowing its not of use to run or fight, then the person will notice the wound. Then of course, they will bleed out and die or be carried away etc. |
