Product Design
if you dont make it look good, it'll end up empty hype.

@Marshal
Not necessarily. A good example would be Diesoft (no offense to Diesoft because he's great).
He's a popular builder, but there are just so many unknown amazing ones out there that definitely outclass him that would probably work for less, if at all. |

It depends on what you develop. Some people are just builders or scripters, Some are both.
If you are a builder then Product Design. If you are a scripter then Technical Skill. If you are a graphic designer then Developer Popularity.
It all depends on what you do in your area of development.

@jradi
really?
i would consider product design the most important because scripting isn't all about the stuff you can't see; the people playing only really care about what they can see |

Diesoft finishes his jobs so he is a good developer
Biggest factor is finishing it, nothing else |

Well. Yes and No.
For me, I'm a builder and scripter and I aim for Perfection all the time. Don't ask about my neatness of my code..

finish a good product that is fun to play
thats what being a game dev is about
Look at aliens colonial marines. Devs hyped the game up immensely, looked good, but was an utter disappointment because the devs were inexperienced and made everything so bad that it was the opposite of fun.

If a developer cannot finish a project, then it's pointless, lol.
Sure other factors that you stated could be a major part of it - but if a developer cannot finish what they started, then I would not classify them as "good" |

@killer
I don't believe in that, though.
Tons of projects can be abandoned then picked up again.
So you can't say that they will never be finished, because they might very well be. |

I just want to throw in a little sentence here...
We are all over hyped and are no way near as good as a lot of people think we are, we are all overrated.
