Rattle-rattle, a halftrack stutters by in the drowning snow, creaking and whining in agony as it's fragile chassis refuses to freeze over in the devouring blizzard. An eager face pops out and looks at the snow, clearly excited. The face is young, unknowing and naive. The face creases into unparallelled anguish and disgust as he looks out towards the distant cluster of menacing, hooked trees. A hand bursts out from the snow, attempts to writhe itself from the ground and promptly falls flat. Unmoving, empty. The face struggles to digest this and immediately realizes it's cold; instantly dipping back into the rustling, damaged and weakened. Inside the cabin of the half-track, a group of the Osttruppen stare at the young officer, in disbelief and horror at who've been assigned. The young officer exchanges puzzled-looks between all of the Osttruppen, confused at why they are showing him hateful glances on their first mission together. Finally, one musters forward, raises his helmet and pulls away the cloth covering his face. Then speaks.
"You've never seen combat." He mocks cruelly.
"No..but, I am eager to fight for the fatherland..." The officer speaks uncertainly, worried and distraught on why his first command is in the middle of no-where.
The half-track rustles, impacts a rock and shudders, to many of their Osttruppen's despair.
"There is no glory." The Osttruppen was unofficially speaking for the entire group, and all nodded in unison with their apparent leader's statement.
The half-track grinds itself to a halt, followed by a splitting noise and a muffled chat between two people in German. It rustles forward once more, before a shuddering and a wheeze. Then it tilts to the left and promptly stops, the singular light in the center of the cabin falls down and impacts the floor. Shrouding them all in darkness as the door slams open and they bustle out of the half-track. The officer follows quietly, nervous and frightened.
"Welcome, welcome!" Yells a friendly voice, an elderly, if experienced Grenadier walks up to the Officer, his happy and friendly face suddenly turns to a grim seriousness.
"The eastern side of the base is overrun with wolves, it froze down. No-ones alive there, provisions in the forms of ammo and food are running scarce and any water is as cold as the land it's sitting on. Stay near the fire, it'll keep you alive. Don't do that? You'll freeze. We're taking the half-track."
"...But that, leaves me with no vehicles to assist in the defense." The officer mumbles in his innocent and confused tone.
"Defense? My dear friend, the chance of the Red Army coming this way is as close to none. They're at Stalingrad, and we will be as-well. You and your Osttruppen.." He waves a hand dismissively at the rabble of what could be, collectively known as soldiers, then continues..."And the Volksgrenadiers, are here to babysit the base and keep this side of the land in our control. Got that?" He smiles at the end and pulls up his hood over the helmet.
"Yes..sir.." The officer replies, all sense of authority drained out by the statements.
"The radio is downed, by the way. Something got it last-night, maybe it was the blizzard. We don't know." And with that, they were off. The group stood standing there, cradling KARS like unfamiliar toys in their arms and armored with the worst gear. The officer turned to the rabble and ordered them off, some to sentry and the others to sit by the fires to keep warm.

And then the Grenadiers came back, one at least. And said that the Red Army had surrounded the fortifications. All color drained from each soldiers face.

This was their grave.

-BACKGROUND-

This is set during WW2, during the blizzards and around the time of Stalingrad, you're stationed in the middle of no-where with dwindling ammo and food supplies, you're not well trained and have half-decent equipment. No reinforcements are coming to help, and the world around you is freezing. As in, stay out in it for more than five minutes without a fire source and you're frozen. That also means, that every vehicle that is in this place is frozen and the tent you all sleep in is...frozen.

The only place in the trenches is the officer's hut, which is heated, much to your anger and jealousy.

The eastern side of the base is frozen up and infested with wolves, and the only thing stopping getting to you is a chain fence and a rather reinforced door from previous guards.

Try and survive, that's the point of this. Attempting to escape will end with your death by the cold or Red Army.
--RULES--

1. Romance isn't really going to happen here, so no. Swearing, maybe.
2. Don't god-mod. Well, you're allowed to survive more than a NPC soldier, but not an lot. You're Only Human.
3. Ranks above Sergeant are forbidden.
4. You're Osttruppen or a Volksgrenadier, that means you're not well equipped and even being the rank of Sergeant doesn't give you much authority over anyone else. It's everyone out for themselves.
5. You can die, Red Army Soldiers can and will attack, they can and will kill you and non-character soldiers. If you die you have two more attempts of a character before being permanently dead.
6. The only currency left is food, ammunition and places to nap which aren't cold.
7. The Red Army is unplayable for obvious reasons, as playing as them would remove the point of this except 'Survive the cold.'
8. Vehicles? No. There are none I'm afraid.
9. General non-characters such as normal Osttruppen can be controlled by you, but the Officer and the Grenadiers are under control of me for balancing purposes.
