Yeah, I know I haven't posted here in awhile.
I'm genuinely curious if any of you think that a video game crash will occur within the next 10-20 years.
Literally every "AAA" title has been half-baked or completely terrible. A current example; Destiny, did quite poorly even compared to what Bungie had previously done as a developer. The only games I can remember coming out this year that were of any quality were indie games such as Shovel Knight and Insurgency. The rest of the release lineup is basically Smash Brothers until next year (at least of what I am aware of.)
EA constantly nickles and dimes people; Sims 4 being the most current example - and Battlefield Hardline a soon to be example. Developers are becoming really terrible and don't even consider a broader fan base to buy the next games in their installment. Ubisoft has done quite poorly as well; Watch_dogs being a colossal failure (and I called it, not to brag), while Farcry 4 MIGHT just save them from being completely brushed over by me.
Personally, this year I haven't bought many games from this year only because I chose to not pre-order or believe any hype. Remember Titanfall? That game that not only failed hype, but failed to be a unique enough game to be even popular enough to last. Less and less games end up being good; The Order 1886 will be horrendous when it's out and more "cinematic/theatrical" games really need to go. 2012 and 2013 are very similar to this year in which we got only a few decent releases, and it seems that this is the future that will be going down hard.
TL;DR : Less and less good games are coming out, and business practices of companies are going to lead to the end of video gaming similar to the original "gaming crash".
I'm also curious to hear how it has been since I left. |

Why.. how?
if anything games have only been evolving since,
they won't die anytime soon.
the video game crash happened because gaming wasn't as popular as it is today, it can't happen now or anytime soon because so many people play it now, it's not an uncommon thing like it used to be |

Just because this year was bad, that doesn't mean it will be bad for ever,
eventually we will grow up, some of us will become developers and learn from the mistakes of this gen's developers |

The problem is, Indies are also very selective. Some people like to try to make a quick buck. For example, Day One, WarZ (Infection Survivor stories), Flight control; all are really bad games that were passed BEFORE the whole "open market" on Steam. Gabe Newell's decision to be able to self publish without any verification on Steam will easily cause over population of terrible games on PC. |

Watch Dogs, Titanfall,Destiny Idk. Its probably of these so called next Gen consoles. In the next year or two we will start getting actual good games. PC is thriving so.

Actually, gaming was a popular time when the 2600 flopped. The extreme amount of low quality games made customers not want to buy games, and in turn several thousands of carts were dumped / destroyed.
Why is this any different? Because we have more than a few platforms to play games on? Better hardware? I also stated that 2012, 2013 were just the same as this year. 2015 doesn't seem to have any really exciting titles that we know of yet. |

Considering consoles have already hit their limit, I don't think we will be getting any better experiences due to the extra power.
Destiny runs 30FPS on PS4 (from what I heard)
Dead Rising 3 is 30FPS 720p on XBONE

What makes this different is,
1.PC gaming is common now, 2.Indie developers are here to save the day 3. AAA companies won't sit there and watch as their profits fall anymore 4.It's much easier to develop games now 5.10 years later would mean, all the aspiring developers would grow up and develop good games. |

But they aren't just my opinions, critic as well as a majority of the user base of consoles AND PC have been extremely disappointed with new "AAA" games. |

Idk but. I'm scared of the gaming future. EA has a subscription, and I already hate paying for online, even if it is 2$ |

1.PC gaming may be common, but why does that matter if the games suck?
2.Indie developers have made SOME decent games, however others have flopped.
3."AAA" companies will most likely do nothing until they are almost dead. EA has lost a bunch of money over their most recent installments (especially because they have the great game guarantee where you can just return PC games)
4.Being easier to develop isn't exactly helpful, like I said before games like WarZ and Air Control are designed to trick people into buying horrible games just so they can take your money for something you thought may be decent.
5.Considering how several developers have gone under (irrational and THQ recently), and that the state of the US economy (I'm unsure about other countries) has caused jobs to be hard to keep. Heck, I've been dropped out of jobs quite often because of this. (not like I am a developer or anything) |

i'm pretty sure the only reason why this year hasn't had many good games is because of the transistion to the next generation (now current generation) consoles. sure, a lot of games have been disappointing, but it has always been that way.
also, video gaming is like playing sports; people won't stop doing it. we haven't seen a noticeable drop in players in the gaming community either, so it's very unlikely to happen within the next 10-20 years even if it does happen.

"current example; Destiny, did quite poorly even compared to what Bungie had previously done as a developer."
destiny was pretty good in my opinion. although it was really, really repetitive, the addiction of finding new loot kept me going. a lot of people seem to hate it because " it ended too early," but the truth is bungie confirmed they are adding new content every month, and it won't be finished for a while.

The subscription is $5 extra a month on XBONE to play games that they give you, it's not multiplayer service. Jim Sterling (imb4 muh game journalists) had a good point with this however, if EA is successful with this model; what stops other companies like Ubisoft? |

Exactly. I don't wanna start paying 5$ a month to play rockstar games, ubisoft games, etc.
Now, if they made a TV where it has a built in Netflix like gaming stream for 15 or 20$ a month, that would be kinda cool. Still, even the thought of that I don't like |

The reason why I have been gone for so long is that I had suffered really, really bad depression and I'm surprised I am even still here after all of it. I still get depressed from time to time, and hanging around here doesn't really help (not that it triggers me or something stupid like that)
The chat got really annoying with everyone really just being negative with each other and everyone opinions.
I actually now just have a Skype group from people from /mlp/ and it's fantastic. It's great because they have the same tastes as I do (If you know what I mean) and they are very similarly depressed as me, it's basically a hugfest over there when you ever need it.
Tell James that I finally played Katawa Shoujo (m-muh mods) and that Emi is best grill.

About your 5th point...
I will say one thing
the US will not be the only market out there,
someone, somewhere will expand to other regions. let it be egypt, let it be the UK, hell, let it be brazil.
The funding and publication is a problem(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHBOWPLpXrs), I will agree, but it's a solvable problem.
I may be a little optimistic (maybe too optimistic) but I have doubts that this medium will die anytime before this century ends |
