For all of those who hate pop as much as metalheads, but hate metal just as much as a pop singer, than this list is for you. Welcome to the Alternative list. Now this list isn't for those 2013'ers who like Bestille, Arctic Monkeys (thats gotta be just the worst ever band name) and Green Day. Especially Green Day. Shun the non believers. Shun! This list is for the REAL Alternative bands.
Number Ten: Coldplay-Viva La Vida: Although they've started nearing torwards the pop side, this is one of Coldplays good alternative songs. If not, the only one. This is known for its variation of instruments, and lack of guitar. Pretty much an almost pop song, because it has too much guitar. Anyways, this deserves a number ten spot on this list.
Number Nine: Radiohead-Creep: Pretty much a song that describes any emo kid. Which if you think about it, no emo kid would listen to Alternative, right? Anyways, this is Radioheads signature song. Known for its somber tone that grows louder during the climax of the song. It describes a boy who is in love with a girl, but feels he isn't 'special' enough to get her. He seems like a stalker anyways.
Number Eight: Weezer-Say It Ain't So: Probably one of Weezers most popular songs, 'Say it ain't so' is number eight on our list. Known for its memorable chorus and guitar, this song is of course will light up a crowd. Except in 2014, because Weezer is old.
Number Seven: 3 Doors Down-Kryptonite: One of 3 Doors Down most famous songs, Kryptonite dishes out some stiff competition. Known for its pretty relateable meaning and great vocals, it serves as a solid song on our list to number one. Wouldn't it be ironic if this song was number 3?
Number Six: AFI-Miss Murder: Miss Murder is arguably one of AFI's best songs. In my opinion, these guys aren't too great. Though known for its familiar sound and hard to forget vocals, this serves as a solid Number Six pick.
Number Five: 30 Seconds To Mars-The Kill (bury me): This song probably deserves to be higher up, but this is a pretty good mediator. Known for its signature scream "This is who I really am!", and actually having guitar, this song is a pretty decent song to rock out too.
Number Four: Smashing Pumpkins-Bullet With Butterfly Wings: Known for its aggresive rock style, and really powerful vocals, Billy Corgan really dishes out a beating to the rest of the competition. This song is one of my favorites by the Smashing Pumpkins.
Number Three: Foo Fighters-Everlong: One of the best songsby the Foo Fighters, Everlong is truely one of the best alt songs out there. Known for its great vocals and overall rockin' sound, its no wonder why these guys fill stadiums!
Number Two: Red Hot Chili Peppers-Dani California: Most of you are wondering how these guys outrank Stone Temple Pilots, but its mainly due to popularity. 'Dani California' tells a story about a girl who goes on a crime spree, and ends up getting caught. Known for its rhyming vocals and epic solo at the end, this serves some really stiff competition.
Honorable Mentions: Alien Antfarm-Smooth Criminal All American Rejects-Move Along Imagine Dragons-Radioactive The Black Crowes-She Talks To Angels Dinosaur Jr-Feel The Pain The Black Keys-Tighten Up (Brothers) AWOL Nation-Sail
Number One: R.E.M-Losing My Religion: Known for being one of the first Alternative bands, and starting the alternative wave in the 90's, R.E.M is truely the best Alternative band. Losing My Religion discusses a pretty relateable topic about losing where you come from over time. Its known for its acoustic style and unforgetable sound.

| I totally agree with number 10, although I'd probably rank it higher if this were my list. |

| Coldplay is pretty much the scenerio in which you have two kids left to pick for your dodgeball team. You don't want any of them, but you gotta pick one. Not to mention, when you say "alternative" people think Coldplay. Personally, they're more pop rock than anything, but they were deffinetly better than Nickelback. |

| I had to include Foo Fighters. It wouldn't be right if I didn't. AFI is kinda okay. Not really too great in my opinion, but they were decent. |

| No. This is off of personal preference. I was inspired by watchmojo to make top ten lists. I usually just put in bands I like, and see how many people care about my opinion. I also just love rock music enough to do it. |

Coldplay isn't pop. If you've been a fan for a long time like I have, you'd realize that each album is a different version of alternative. Their newest album is alternative pop, not complete pop. |

coldplay is pop. "alternative" is supposed to be different, but it just sounds like just another pop rock band.

no they're not...Parachutes, AROBTTH, X&Y, and Viva are alternative. Mylo is upbeat and Ghost Stories is alternative pop. |

| Coldplay decided to sell-out and do pop rock. Same thing with Fall Out Boy. To be honest, F.O.B hasn't been popular since I was in third grade. So, I don't really care for them. Coldplay used to do Alternative back in '03-'04. They transitioned to the pop rock scene around '09. |

did you mean good instead of popular because they were pretty popular last year/early this year because of the song "my songs know what you did in the dark (light em up)" |

| I was in Third Grad from 2007-2008. That was their popular period. They made decent enough songs, since I went back and re-listened to Thnks Fr Th Mmrs, Sugar we're going down, Dance, Dance. Now they're just glorified pop. |
