"A Bird in a Gilded Cage" by Arthur J. Lamb is about women who marry for money rather than love and the cost of doing so. The beautiful woman is trapped in a lovely home, but it is a prison for her.
A key literary feature is hyperbole in the line "It shone with a thousand lights," which exaggerates the beauty and light of the "cage" or the ballroom of the woman. Another literary feature is metaphor, used in the line
"She's only a bird in a gilded cage," which compares her glamorous but sad life to being a beautiful bird in a cage. Everyone looks at you and assumes you're happy because you're beautiful, but you're still in a cage.

“Wounded Bird Inside a Gilded Cage" by Buck Slime is about women in the spotlight. Female celebrities are often ridiculed for their looks and lifestyle. Many of them die young because of the decisions they make under pressure... suicide, drug addiction, anorexia, bulimia, self-inflicted harm, etc...
There is repetition of the phrase “Dying young guarantees you never age.”. The repetition of this phrase alludes to the whole “live while you're young” mentality that this generation has adopted. We don’t care/think about what we will do when we’re old, we focus on our youth. Many young people die when they're young and never get to experience old age.
The phrase “Like a wounded bird OUTSIDE a gilded cage.” is a simile that differs from the repetitive phrase mentioned before. This simile is near the end of the poem and I think it hints that the “wounded bird” (the unfortunate starlet) is no longer in “the cage” (fame) because of something she did that disgraced her, or it’s entirely possible that she “escaped” her cage and is now free.

Both songs use the metaphor of women being birds trapped inside cages. The cages in these two songs are quite different though. In "A Bird in a Gilded Cage", the cage is clearly a marriage with an older rich man. In “Wounded Bird Inside a Gilded Cage", it’s fame and money at a young age, resulting in a premature death.

@Lova

Lennie Small is huge and lumbering and, in many ways, the opposite of George Milton. Where George has sharp features and definite lines, Lennie is "shapeless." Often he is described in terms of animals. He lumbers like a bear and has the strength of a bear, but his actions are often described like those of a dog.

Lennie's personality is like that of a child. He is innocent and mentally handicapped with no ability to understand abstract concepts like death. While he acts with great loyalty to George, he has no comprehension of the idea of "loyalty." For that reason, he often does not mean to do the things that get him into trouble, and once he does get into trouble, he has no conscience to define his actions in terms of guilt. Lennie only defines them in terms of consequences: "George is going to give me hell" or "George won't let me tend the rabbits." He is devoted to George like a dog is devoted to its master, and he tries to follow George's commands. There is a childlike wonder in Lennie that can be seen when he first sees the pool of water and slurps down huge gulps of water like a horse.

Lennie's greatest feeling of security comes from petting soft things. When the rest of the world gets complicated and scary, petting soft things helps Lennie feel safe. In petting dead mice, Lennie is doing something that makes him feel safe. Society as a whole would disapprove of what he is doing, but Lennie sees nothing wrong in his actions. When they have their farm, as George tells him at the end, Lennie will not need to be scared of bad things any more, and he can tend the rabbits and pet them.

In Duong Thu Huong’s Paradise of the Blind, the characters around Hang influence her feelings and decisions through the influence of communism and Confucianism. Que, Chinh, and Tam influence and alter Hang’s feelings throughout the beginning, middle and end of the novel. Communism influences Uncle Chinh, while Que and Tam hold to the ideals of Confucianism. Chinh is selfish and lazy, Tam is generous but intense, and Que is relaxed and kind, but weak.
Uncle Chinh divorces Que and Ton because Ton comes from a family that owns some land. Uncle Chinh is very selfish to deprive his sister of her happiness with Ton “She said my father had suffered from the first day Uncle Chinh came to my grandmother’s house, when he wagged a finger in his face and said: ‘You and Que were husband and wife. Now, you are a class enemy. I forbid you to see my sister. If you ever get it into your head to try, I’ll have you locked up.”’ (Thu Huong 29). Uncle Chinh keep Que away from her husband, divorces them, and threatens to lock Ton up if he tries to see Que. Hang is told all of this when she is older. Because of Chinh’s self-importance and communist beliefs, Hang has grown up without a father figure in her life. This influences how she is raised and what she thinks and feels while growing up. Huong uses the term “Wagged” when describing a hand motion Uncle Chinh makes to emphasize what he is saying. The term “Wagged” is imagery, giving someone an image in their mind of an angry Asian man scolding two people while making a hand gesture. Chinh’s actions could almost be described as something an angry old woman would do if she were scolding a grandchild. The reader might think that this word is almost out of place in a scene as serious as this.
After almost ten years of separation, Uncle Chinh comes to visit Hang and Que. Chinh looks a lot like Que, so Hang is drawn to him. Not long after the small talk ends, a silence develops and Chinh says “‘You come from the working classes. You don’t have to worry about the stigma of a bad family background. Forget him. You should have remarried a long time ago.’ I heard my mother’s voice crack as she replied, “His family was reclassified as middle peasantry during the Rectification Campaign. But let’s not talk about the past.’ I went out, a hamper under my arm. They both went oddly silent.” (Thu Huong 47). Chinh and Que clearly have a lot of problems with each other that they don’t feel like discussing while Hang is in their presence. Que is upset because Chinh wants her to move on and get an office job for the communists and Chinh is upset with Que because she wants to provide for her daughter. The silence between the two and the argument waiting to erupt will cause anxiety and confusion for Hang.
Que and Hang are leaving Uncle Chinh’s house after a short visit to see if he is doing well after an illness due to malnourishment. Chinh treats them both rather rudely, while the rest of his family eats morsels of the food he has brought back from the hospital. “‘Let’s never come back here, Mother.’ ‘He’s my brother. You can’t deny blood ties.’ She wiped her nose and eyes. ‘You’ll come without me, then. I’m never setting foot here again.’” (Thu Huong 109). In the Vietnam, Confucianism is the main religion. The elders expect their children and grandchildren to be loyal to the family. Que supports her side of the family while trying to provide for Hang. Sadly, her brother treats her terribly. Que ultimately chooses to help her side of the family, leaving Aunt Tam to support Hang. Que’s need to support Chinh creates a barrier in Que and Hang’s relationship, which influences Hang in a negative way.
When Hang returns from a party held in her honor at Tam’s house, Que is waiting for her. “‘ Did you miss me?’ I asked. She stared at me, blinking with emotion. But only for an instant, then she spoke to me in an indifferent voice. ‘Of course. You’re the one who never thinks about anyone else. You must have had some good times.’ I hugged her and laughed. ‘It’s true, I didn’t think much about anyone... except you. I missed you.’ Then, softly: ‘No one can replace a mother.’” (Thu Huong 172). Que and Hang have been distant for awhile because each feels as though they must be accepted by a different family. Que has been giving Hang the cold shoulder about attending this party, but Hang makes it clear to Que that money cannot replace the love of a mother. This moment positively affects the feelings and decisions of Que and Hang, strengthening the weakened bond between them.
Aunt Tam is another family member that influences Hang’s feelings and decisions throughout the novel. Hang has just returned to her job in the textile factory when she receives a telegram that informs her that Tam will die soon. She returns home as quickly as she can and sees Tam. “She was silent, those wide, stony eyes of hers fixed on me, dead level. Then the tears started to flow. ‘Hang... So this is what you’ve become, my child, a skeleton? At your age. My poor niece... selling yourself like a coolie abroad.” (Thu Huong 241). Aunt Tam dies knowing that Hang is weak and underfed and hates Hang’s mother for this. She tells Hang that she detests her mother and dies hating her. Knowing that her Aunt dies with hate in her heart affects Hang emotionally. She pities Aunt Tam for living a sad, broken life. Huong uses a metaphor through Tam, describing Hang as “selling yourself like a coolie abroad.”. A coolie is a term used to describe an Asian laborer. Tam is basically saying that Hang looks like she’s a slave for a foreign government. This metaphor emphasizes how exhausted and underfed Hang appears and it may be a subtle poke at the Vietnamese government.
Throughout the novel, Hang’s family has influenced and altered her feelings. In the beginning of the novel, Chinh does not allow her mother to speak to her father for selfish reasons, ultimately leading to his death. Hang is fatherless because of Chinh’s selfish actions. Que tries to be a loving and supportive mother, but her brother pressures her to help him and his family and eventually she gives in. With all of her time and effort devoted to assisting Chinh and his family, Que has little time for Hang, creating a gap in their relationship. Tam supports Hang financially, but she has nothing but hate for Que and Chinh. Tam ultimately forces Hang to pick sides, which a truly loving Aunt would never do. All of these characters aid and hinder Hang’s decisions. Hang’s journey of self-discovery ends with Hang choosing her own path, rather than living the different lives that her relatives have chosen for her.

Perhaps the most misleading aspect of a dinosaur's prehistoric figure may simply prove to compromise a reality of inhumane creatures that demolish and create unique structures thus reuniting and additionally eliminating the openly incredibly rescinding factor which could possibly lead to an overall mental breakdown of an average human chromosomes and possibly pronounce the possibility of a technique used often by a large distribution of many possible energetic quantum theories that completely demolish any chance of penetration in the quartz industrial distribution infatuation.
