We can never actually predict what would happen if a certain desired event occurred or if a certain undesired past event never occurred. Because every single event lines up in a specific way to meet the outcomes, even outcomes of things we don't even think about, and because every outcome causes more events to happen, and because there is an infinite chain of events that are caused by other events, you can never say that if a certain person (in this example a murderer) didn't kill another person, the other person would be alive now.
Does this make sense at all?
I really need to stop thinking about Ian Malcolm's lectures about chaos theory in Jurassic Park. |

I had to read this about four times And my brain is still shorting out
I get what you mean, and it's clear, I just can't contemplate it |

Yah, I know, I've spent months thinking in this way. |

"Yah, I know, I've spent months thinking in this way."
Wait, I've figured it out now, read it really slowly and it all clicked into place.
Yeah, you're right. You could never say that, if "I didn't get cut yesterday, I wouldn't be sick today."
It's not 100% probable. |

| Is there some theory based off of this? One that focuses on how every single event lines up specifically? I mean, it'd be cool to get into this stuff in the future. |

Exactly. You could have been exposed to the organisms that caused your illness in the present time in some other way, such as forgetting to wash your hands.

Are there any other than chaos theory? Maybe I'll get into stuff like chaos theory, actually... |

I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry... You could, yeah, but it's tough work. I was considering, and still am considering, a career in science. I want to be the guy who sits in an astronomy lab looking at stars day and night and thinking "Man, this is a badass universe." |

It makes me excited, actually. I get a little rush of adrenaline looking at the wonders of this universe.
Quasars, pulsars, nebulae, black holes, ... Oh man... It's all soo beautiful. |

standing infront of someone may change their future drastically
i mean think about it.
you walk infront of someone, theyre a millisecond late to meeting their future spouse. anything has an impact |

"black holes scare the jazzy J fraky-fray out of me"
Yeah, they're scary. Especially the ones that 'pulse'.
And by that I mean shoot high energy plasma out of them in beams.
What if one of those is aimed at us? |

That's an AMAZING documentary I watched around the 2012 event. It's a little scary, but holy hell was it good. The title is "Evacuate Earth" and it's about what we would do if we ever had to evacuate the planet.
I can't find the one I watched on pulsating black holes being aimed at Earth though, but apparently there is one aimed RIGHT at us, it's far away, but it could end life any day. |

Huh? Whaddya mean?
"I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry... You could, yeah, but it's tough work. I was considering, and still am considering, a career in science. I want to be the guy who sits in an astronomy lab looking at stars day and night and thinking "Man, this is a badass universe.""
Heh, sounds fun. Good luck. :)
And yah, it'd be tough, but I really enjoy thinking so deeply about this subject for some reason.

Yah, but whenever you stand in front of someone past events have led up to you standing in front of them, thus you technically have no control over what happens and what doesn't happen. |
