Technically, that is how you pronounced "Johansen." I would know this because I'm Norwegian and there is another reason as well.

That is the American way to pronounce the last name "Johansen." The real way to pronounce the last name "Johansen" is "Yohonson." The last name Johansen originated in Norway like what SRHL said. I'm Norwegian and I know the last name Johansen well. Not going to say why I know it well.

Ok great but that's not how he pronounces it, how his family pronounces it, how any fans pronounce it, how any announcers pronounce it, how any radio broadcasters pronounce it.

tbh, I heard some announcers on TV and on the radio pronounce his name the Norwegian way. I also have a relative on my mom side (Italian) pronounce his name the Norwegian way. I even hear some interviewers pronounce his name the Norwegian way. But, I also heard some announcers and interviewers say his name the American way.

1. Probably only pronounces it that way when he's in Canada/America 2. Most likely wrong on this one, bud 3. 99% of CBJ fans are American 4. CBJ announcers are Canadian/American 5. Radio broadcasters talking about CBJ are Canadian/American

@SRHL You are kinda close. The way to say "Johansen" in Norwegian is "Yo-HAN-sen" You have to express the HAN part. Yo-HAN-sen.
Also, it really doesn't matter if Ed Olczyk and Mike Emrick pronounce Ryan Johansen the Norwegian way. That is the real way to say Johansen. Ryan Johansen is one of my favorite players, but I call him Yo-HAN-sen because I'm Norwegian and that is the proper way. I don't mind it when people say his last name the American way because that is technically right as well. Many last names are pronounce different in the US. Some Italian last names are pronounce different in the US and some German last names are pronounce different. |

Not sure if express is the right word to say. You have to exaggerate the "HAN" part I guess is the right thing to say.
