whehehe ༼ ༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ༽
Fangirls, come to me, and we shall cry for L together. For a few weeks at minimum preferably.
and then we shall part and watch a different anime so we shall not cry for L anymore, that is until we see someone's kawaii drawing on dA of him.

Mage has no ability to fangurl.
That's what makes him bland. |

Mage has no ability to fangurl.
Mage has common decency and actual intelligence.
I mean, Death Note is actually pretty good (The first half anyways.) And instead of praising the writing, voice acting, characterization the originality of the plot itself... You instead choose to obsess over a single character, squealing about "Kawaii drawings" of him? Seriously? |

What's wrong with having a favourite character? ;o; Fangirling is what makes the nerd life worth living.
besides, L is adorable. There is nothing cuter than L staring at a panda cracker, trying to decipher the meaning of life. |

Having a favorite character is fine. If this was about how you "liked what a complex/well written/interesting character L was, I wouldn't care. Even if you added a footnote, in which you confessed some sort of attraction to him, it wouldn't bug me. But liking a character SIMPLY because he's "cute" or "Kawaii" Is insane, and totally disrespectful to the writers. |

Fangirl (v, inf):
To experience a build-up of intense excitement or happiness and struggle not to scream, flap your arms about like a bird, or faint when nobody understands. |

and @mage
pff, it's his character that MAKES him adorable, dummi. :D Light is good-looking but not kawaii on L's level because we saw him from the start of his story so he's a little too shallow. |

Yeah, the psychopathic fellow with a god complex is cool too. But he's not "kawaii" enough. I mean, if HE WAS there would be no other reason to eeeeeever hate him. Kawaii levels are all that matters. |

Okay I feel you're not exactly getting my point so I'll spell it all out for you.
>> Light is a good character. His life is interesting. The story around him is also interesting. However, his character had hardly developed when the anime/manga started. He was just a high school student. There was nothing to learn about him. We just watched him get on with his life without needing to find out anything about his past. In this way he's quite a shallow character.
>> L has an intriguing backstory, he already has a reputation at the start of the series, he already has a past for fans to look into. He's not just a high school student who happens to become corrupt by power like Light. He's just his own self with no influence by the supernatural. He's got his odd posture, eating habits, holding things with a finger and a thumb. You show a picture of L's face to anyone who's never heard of Death Note, they'd probably think he's ugly. But if you see how likable a character he is you'd most likely end up finding his face adorable. Light looks good but L's got so many little quirks that it's hard not to associate his face with his cute personality.
Satisfied? Are you happy that I'm not 'disrespecting the writers' by liking their character? o3o |

Wh...What? Did you even watch the show? I'll agree Lights character development was not as good as it could have been. But he was NO WAY he was "just a high school student" He's a psychopath, and had a god complex. He had dreams of creating a new world and making himself a god, but when he doesn't have the death note, he constantly tries to convince himself he would never do that, that he's a good student.
L was the one with no development. Yes, he had quirks, yes he was amusing to watch, but he started off as a master detective, and ended as a master detective. The only "development" he gets, is when he starts to see Light as a friend Which makes no sense given everything else that happens, so I really dislike that.
Personality quirks is not development. |

It was the Death Note that changed him, in the beginning he had no interesting past, nothing really remarkable.

I think it's the gaps in his past, the bits that weren't explained that is what people find so interesting. Like, what was he like as a kid? What was his life like, what was his view on life? See, because he's such a developed character already, people like to imagine stuff. But Light, as I said, well, he was just an ordinary smart kid. He probably had a normal life, nothing to think about, nobody's interested in filling in the gaps that we didn't see in the anime/manga.

Wait, so are you saying his lack of development is somehow what makes him complex? And this is a ridiculous double standard. "Oh no. Light is boring, and we know nothing about his past so I DON'T like him."
L on the other hand is super cool and kawaii and we know nothing about his past so I DO like him!"
Seriously? I personally think the story about how a high school kid gained such an outlook on the world, and what could drive him to commit everything he did, all while justifying it as the right thing to do is a lot more interesting then learning about Mr Perfect detective get raised by his English butler to solve crimes, and then solve all said crimes |

Mage you are a nightmare xD, I came here to get away from S&I and you're like a whole mob of S&Iers coming to argue q.q.
No what I'm saying is that Light was normal. L has a past. We already know what Light was probably like in earlier life so it's not interesting, but there's so much we don't know about L. You're getting mixed up. |

All we know about Light was that he was a smart highschool student, yes. But it's not his simple past that is intriguing, but what happened in said simple past that gave him such ideas.
L is more mysterious, yes. But he's much less interesting. Just because we know little doesn't mean anything. |

He's less interesting in *your* opinion. Honestly, this isn't meant to be a debate as to whether a character is cool or not. Go to S&I if you want an argument, I assure you, you shan't be disappointed.
Right, now we are free of party-poopers, let's gather together as fangirls, as I intended <3 |

| Near is much more smarter anyway. I say this because he was able to finish a case that L couldn't. Light is a genius, too. His only problem was that he became lustful for blood. |

Near had the unfortunate problem of being totally uninteresting though. |

How Light could have easily killed L on his own:
Sugar Coma, or Fatal Diabetes.
Would have made it so much quicker and easier. |
