figures humans are naturally partial to self-congratulation and needing to feel a sense of self-worth.
but please tell me how much of a good person you are for dumping a bucket of ice on your head. sure, it raises awareness. but, if anything, other organizations that are struggling as a result of the ALS craze need awareness.
besides, when celebrities and the like donate to organizations, they honestly do it because it's the fashionable thing to do. ALS hype is here now and so it makes them look like good people if they donate to an organization that a lot of people hear about.
if people were actually altruistic, they'd donate where their money would be most cost-effective, and most utilitarian (that is, it would give the greatest good to the greatest number). |

nobody knows if the people pouring ice on their head was donating or not, you can't even tell this... hell, maybe they don't even have the money
the least they can do is benefit by rising awareness of doing an ice bucket challenge, it's as fitting as wearing a pink shirt or pink high socks during breast cancer awareness
you should be some sort of human ball gazer because if you really care about society to the point you're against pouring a little bit of ice water on your head you have something wrong with you
to roblox hearsay, it's like saying "my items got stolen!" and everyone responds with "sorry dude that sucks" but doesn't always give you anything
also no one uses the word altruistic, just stick with wholehearted |

i'll try to stop using big words; i'm honestly not trying to be showy or anything.
but we can infer that a lot of people dumping buckets of water over their heads do not care whatsoever about ALS, and many of them have not donated. and failure to donate is absolutely not the problem per-se, but the problem is that people are doing the challenge out of narcissism and other superficial reasons rather than wholeheartedly trying to improve society.
that's why the whole do-good campaign is disgusting to me. it shows the idiocy of social media, even if it did achieve some good in result. *people don't care about things unless it somehow pertains to themselves*, and this campaign allows people to challenge others to sink down to their level of narcississm.
i like how the forums like using all these ad hominems rather than actually detracting from the validity of what im saying. i think it's because you guys, even if reluctantly, know that it's true. the motives for the ALS social campaign are interwoven with narcissism. |

the hype also subverts a lot of other good charities and causes them to get fewer donations.
i will say that contributing to the ALS donation campaign is really a moral wrongdoing, even if it, ultimately, has benign results. this is because fueling an ALS campaign through narcissism is akin to crowdsourcing for a good cause through murder. if funds are attained by immoral means, then, even if the result is seemingly good, there has been moral err committed by contributing.
it is what it is. i'm done arguing. |

"yeah dude literally listen to yourself lmfao this is honestly unbelievable"
people have a natural tendency to want a sense of self-worth and achieve this through "likes" on social media sites. yeah, that's honestly just incomprehensible. |
