//:National Aeronautics and Space Administration:\\
-Date: 8.29.14
==Introduction==
For a long time now, some of the brightest and bravest people have been working for NASA. Sadly, a lot of their contributions go unnoticed by high ranks, and if they are noticed, they receive little more than a pat on the back and possibly a promotion. I plan on changing that.
==Idea==
NASA will now be offering some of the most prestigious awards to civilians and employees alike. Most of these awards may be awarded only by the administrator, and a few not even he can award. I'll start with the Outstanding Leadership Medal.
----------------
Award: Outstanding Leadership Medal
Awarded by: Administrator
Description:
The NASA Outstanding Leadership Medal is awarded to US government employees, and civilians alike, for notably outstanding leadership which affects technical or administrative programs of NASA. The leadership award may be given for an act of leadership, for sustained contributions based on a leader’s effectiveness, for the productivity of the leader’s program, or for the leader’s demonstrated ability in developing the administrative or technical talents of other employees.
----------------
Moving up to a bit more prestigious award, is the Distinguished Service Medal.
----------------
Award: Distinguished Service Medal
Awarded by: Administrator
Description:
The NASA Distinguished Service Medal is one of the the highest award which may be bestowed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The medal may be presented to any member of the government, including both military, astronauts, and civilians.
The NASA Distinguished Service Medal is awarded to those who display distinguished service, ability, or courage, and have personally made a contribution representing substantial progress to the NASA mission. The contribution must be so extraordinary that other forms of recognition would be inadequate.
Typical presentations of the NASA Distinguished Service Medal included awards to senior NASA administrators, mission control leaders, and astronauts who have completed several successful space flights. Due to the prestige of the award, the decoration is authorized for wear on active uniforms of the United States military (NUSM).
----------------
This award is given to those whom advance NASA tremendously, and revolutionize the astronomy and aeronautics realms. This is the second most prestigious award that will be offered by NASA, for the time being anyway. Finally, comes the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.
----------------
Award: Congressional Space Medal of Honor
Awarded by: The President of the United States (POTUS)
Description:
The Congressional Space Medal of Honor was authorized by the United States Congress in 1969 to recognize "any astronaut who in the performance of his duties has distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious efforts and contributions to the welfare of the Nation and mankind." The highest award given by NASA, it is awarded by the President of the United States in Congress's name on recommendations from the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The award is a separate decoration from the Medal of Honor, which is a military award for extreme bravery and gallantry in combat.
Although the Congressional Space Medal of Honor is a civilian award of the United States government, it is authorized as a military decoration for display on U.S. military uniforms due to the prestige of the decoration.
To be awarded the Congressional Space Medal of Honor, an astronaut or other employee must perform feats of extraordinary accomplishment while participating in space flight under the authority of NASA. Typically, the Congressional Space Medal of Honor is awarded for scientific discoveries or actions of tremendous benefit to mankind. The decoration may also be awarded for extreme bravery during a space emergency or in preventing a major space disaster. The Congressional Space Medal of Honor may also be presented posthumously to those astronauts who die while performing a US space mission.
----------------
I'm afraid that's all the awards so far. But keep in mind, these are some of the most prestigious and important awards known to man. Anyone who has been awarded any one of these has gone above and beyond, and has advanced NASA considerably, or even put his or her life on the line for others. They should always be respected.
==Conclusion==
These awards will help standardize and control the NASA award system. In the past, these awards have been tossed about, and at least a few NASA employees already possess one or more of the above awards. That will no longer be the case. Like I said above, I feel strongly that some of NASA's employees are under-appreciated. So from now on, if anyone feels that someone, other than him or herself, is eligible for any of these awards, feel free to shoot me a PM, and I'll be more than happy to investigate.
Lastly, I would like to announce a surprise award ceremony for several members of NASA, current and past. I will release the names of those receiving an award in a forum soon. Until then, keep up the great work!
Signed; ~ Rbxcac || Administrator of NASA |
