| Division winners should get an auto-spot, but not an auto-top spot like they do in NFL and MLB. At this rate the A's are going to play a single game series to decide their season despite having the 2nd best record in baseball. |

| Also the fact that Seattle went 7-9 and got a home game vs the 11-5 Saints in 2010 is horrible. |

who won i dont see a problem with this. the division winners won their division, they deserve to get a higher seed. the wild card teams didn't. |

| So because Seattle barely won their extremely lousy division, and the Saints finished 2nd place in what was the NFL's best division that season, Seattle deserves the home game? And 7/10 times the Saints win that game in Seattle. 9/10 in a neutral site/New Orleans. |

ikr, the 49ers should have played at home in the wildcard game.

Seattle won their division, who cares if it was lousy. The Saints didn't. The division winner should get home field advantage for the first game because they beat every team in their division, but the wild card didn't because they didn't beat everyone in their division. |

imo determining home/away games should have to do with your record.

| did you win your division? TOO BAD HAHAHA a wild card did better than you so they get a higher seed! who cares if you won your division, the wild card team did a lot better because they went 11-5 and you went 10-6! |

| If you win your division you get into the playoffs. That's already a privilege. To give them homefield too is kind of excessive when you consider that some of the wild card teams had better seasons. |

well idk what jimbo meant, but i meant to say that the better record should have a home game than the team that has a worse record.

| it doesn't really make sense to let a wild card team have home field advantage when they didn't even win their own division. honestly who cares about the record at that point. |

@Padam
That's what I'm saying too. NFL teams should be rewarded for their success. Seeding should be based on record, not whether they win their division or not. |

so if a 13-3 wildcard team plays a 7-9 division winner @ the 7-9 home stadium, that is fine?

its perfectly fine. it happened a few years ago and look at the outcome.
the division winner should and does get home field advantage because they were the best in their division.
there is no reward for second best. |

| But if the Saints were in the NFC West that year there's no doubt they would've won the division. The better record/team should get the higher rank, if you are truly looking to reward success for a grinding season. |

there is no reward for second best. there isn't, and their never should be. |

| This is an extreme example, but say the division winner goes 16-0, 2nd place team goes 14-2, yet they are stuck playing on the road against an 8-8 team when based on their record they should get a BYE for the hard work they put in and domination during the regular season. Are you gonna tell me that's not logical? |

its not logical because they are second in the division not first.
for the third time, there is no reward for second place. first place gets the home field advantage, second and third place don't. |

| My first post is terribly written. I'm trying to argue that postseason seedings should be based on overall record, without division winners getting auto-homefield for their first games. Division winners would still get auto-playoff spots though. |

They fought through their division, the other team did not. The wild card team is lucky enough to get a playoff spot because it could just be all division winners
