We can claim one thing back and say Israel started then one thing back again and claim Hamas started, it's endless.
You also can't talk about this current war, because it's a long conflict started (if you believe in the Bible) since the world was created.

After the Operation Pillar of Defense was finished, there were understandings between Hamas and Israel that caused a calm (pretty much) in both Israel and Gaza Strip. The amount of fired rockets has increased since early 2014, Hamas has used the time of the calm to get armed with rockets and to dig tunnels into the territory of Israel.
When the 3 kids were kidnapped in the West Bank, the Operation Brother's Keeper has begun and the IDF arrested hundreds of Hamas members in which tens of them were the prisoners from the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange and members of the Palestinian Legislative Council. In the clash (if I'm not wrong with the word) with the IDF, 10 Palestinians were killed. As a response, in the second week of the operation - terrorists started firing rockets at Israel non-stop and with higher amount from day to day. Israel responded with pinpoint air strikes against terror targets.
In June 27th, the IDF killed 2 terrorists who took a part in the rockets firing. In June 29th, IDF killed at least 1 Hamas member of a squad that was getting ready to fire rockets in the night of the 30th of June.
You can claim any of these:
- Hamas has been getting armed - that points out something. - If those people never kidnapped the kids, no operation was started. - If the IDF didn't kill 10 Palestinians, the rockets were never fired. - If the rockets were never fired, the current on-going operation was never started. - If the current operation has never started - there were no dead people.

israel takes most of palestinian land >palestine gets mad that a lot of palestinians were killed in west bank >kidnaps 3 people >israel thinks that because 3 people were kidnaped that they can take over 2,000 people prisoner >hamas gets mad >launches small weapons at israel >israel launches larger roackets at gaza >hamas gets more mad, launches biggexst weapons they have (still small) >israel launches ground invasion |

">israel thinks that because 3 people were kidnaped that they can take over 2,000 people prisoner"
Under arrest, not prisoners. Israel isn't like US or some other countries that if someone is kidnapped life goes on. That's what special about Israel, imagine if you were kidnapped. Wouldn't you want people to look for you? Would you want to stay with terrorists that would torture you (hopefully, they wouldn't do that), especially when they were teenagers, their parents - if Israel wouldn't do anything about that... everyone would protest against it's apathy.
From all I know and believe in - Hamas never planned the kidnap - it just happened by some jerks.

| "The remaining key issues are: mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement, and resolving Palestinian claims of a right of return for their refugees. The violence of the conflict, in a region rich in sites of historic, cultural and religious interest worldwide, has been the object of numerous international conferences dealing with historic rights, security issues and human rights, and has been a factor hampering tourism in and general access to areas that are hotly contested." ~ The English Wikipedia. |

What would make the whole world happy -Remove citizens Temporarily from Gaza and Israel -Let Israeli Government/IDF fight Hamas Militants
Then everyone would not care anymore. |

Oh yes, but no one would accept Jews, so... (Maybe just US, but they would never let THAT happen).

Again, Hamas is not responsible for the kidnapping. http://mitchellplitnick.com/2014/08/21/no-hamas-did-not-take-responsibility-for-three-israeli-youths-kidnapping-and-murder/
