INTRO So many zombie roleplays end up being just people fighting wave after wave of zombies. This is a tremendous shame. The setting is rife for great roleplaying potential, but never amounts to more than “I see three zombies come around the corner. I shoot two in the head and throw my knife at the third.” I hope for that to be different in this thread. ----------------------- MORE INTRO This is a roleplay thread for people who are serious about roleplaying. The zombie setting is more “The Walking Dead” Than “Left 4 Dead” That is, it's not a story about zombies being killed, but about the PEOPLE killing the zombies, how they feel, what are their thoughts while doing it. Not looking for some long internal monologue, something more than “I see three zombies come around the corner. I shoot two in the head and throw my knife at the third.”. Give it some feeling, please. And it's shouldn't even be all about the people killing zombies. It's also about the struggle for survival, the interaction with other survivors. This is what this RP is about is for. ------------------------- Story The infection started in China. The first videos and photos that quickly spread across the web were all dismissed at a ploy, China trying to bait other countries to bring there militaries into some trap. By the time people started believing it, it had spread to across all of Asia. Within days it had reached Europe. Martial law was declared. USA has closed it's borders and international flights. However, (in the USA) most people still go about their daily lives as usual. The status quo has not been shaken. Yet. -------------------------- Setting: This roleplay takes place in New York City. In your bio, specify what borough you're in. Just for reference, the 4 boroughs are: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx. (We'll leave out Staten Island for simplicities sake.) Keep your experiences location-wise making sense. i.e. don't encounter a zombie hoard that's in Queens, while you're in Brooklyn. --------------------------- I will be posting “News reports” occasionally, about whats happening in the city/state/country. Your character doesn't automatically know this. Have them hear it on the radio or see it on TV. ---------------------- Rules 1. Read my rules. 2. If you can't post for an extended period of time let us know please! 3.If you put your character in a situation where they interact with another player, make sure you can reply in a timely manner. Don't just start a conversation and then not post for a week 4. Again, no short posts. At least 4 sentences. EXCEPTION: when interacting with other players, short posts are acceptable. 5. Put some feeling into your posts. Let us feel what your characters feel. Tell us what they're thinking. This can very easily add some depth and length. PM me “Smells like zombiez” so I know you read this 6. Be descriptive! We don't need to know what the bathroom's wallpaper looks like but that abandoned store you entered, what does it looks like? Are there shelves and carts overturned, or is it in pristine condition as if no one ever entered it. Does that rotting corpses stench make you gag? 7. Language: you can curse, but not every three words. At least four words in between. 8. Romance: Again, lets keep it PG-13 9. Looting: I will leave you guys in charge of what items you find, but don't make them too good, and make them make sense. You're not going to find a gun in a shop in times square (most likely). No magic stores of Deus ex Machina 10. Loot part 2: At the end of you post, write all items you acquired. This includes: weapons, ammo, utility items (cell phone, batteries), clothes (if you want to), anything that would make a difference in survival. Never assume that you implied that you have something. Just say it 11. Cars: They don't run on oxygen and good feelings. They need gasoline. Make sure you refuel them. 12: OOC: put all out of character in posts [ ] or (( )) --------------------------- Characters
When you begin, you're some average Joe. You may be a doctor, working the ER, witnessing first hand the damage hysteria does to people. Or a teenager, who, in the face of sociopolitical breakdown, realizes how petty their problems seem. Or a police officer, who puts their life on the line to prevent a group of zombies from entering your city.
The main point is, you're not a gun toting, stab-zombies-in-the-head, motorcycle riding, bad-ass. Yet.
The average person doesn't own a gun. Your character is no different. They shouldn't start with a gun unless it makes sense, like a police officer. Once the need to carry a gun arises, they shouldn't have too much trouble finding one.
Application Name: Gender: Age: Occupation: (i.e. Police, Military, Doctor, Student, Other) Location: (Automatically NYC, specify what borough) Physical Description: Personality Background: (At least a paragraph) Any skills: (i.e. knows how to pilot aircraft, basic mechanic skills...) Starting Inventory:(Police get pump shotgun and pistol, Military get either assault rifle of sniper rifle)
--------------------------- PLAYING 2 CHARACTERS You can play as two different characters BUT there are rules for that: 1. The characters must be different. I mean personalities, they should make different decisions, react differently 2. They need to both be full fledged characters. You can't have one that's full of character, an one be a wet blanket with no character. 3. Both characters know different things. Just because your one character knows that Broadway is overrun with zombies, your other one doesn't know that. 4. Don't play two characters if you can't keep up with the posts for both 5. Part of the reason you can play two characters is so, if one character gets in an impossible situation, you don't have to come up with some unrealistic way to not kill them, you can let one die, and you'll still have the other.

The Last of Us proves you wrong.
There were zombies in the last of us? All I saw was fungal infected humans and regular humans. Perhaps I wasn't looking in the right spots? |

My point exactly.
What? That point makes no sense. It's the equivalent of saying. Oh no way man, there is tons of diversity in the zombie genre! Just look at Europa Universalis 4!

The Last of Us does a bit of a variant off zombies in my opinion.
You're bit, you get infected. In Last of Us, they throw in fungal spores which also get you infected. |

It was never an argument.
Also, this isn't really "well-developed." It's half-assed. Setting is good since it seems you know the area, but the rest is mostly garbage. |

I'm basically the "zombie elitist", meaning that if the person has not died and reanimated; they are not a zombie. They are an infected human being that has simply been driven insane by the pathogen.
Infected are still cool though [and, in my opinion, more realistic].

The creators of the game have been VERY adamant in saying that there is no zombies whatsoever in The Last of Us. It is not a zombie game. It has never been a zombie game. It is not a variant, it shares similar qualities, but so does baseball and football. Are they variants of one another? |

@Mage
I see where you're coming from and I know that the Infected in Last of Us aren't called zombies, but there was quite a few relations to be made with the two.
And baseball and football have many, many differences. Should've said something like table tennis and racquet ball. |

That means nothing. It is not a zombie game. It merely shares qualities with zombie games. |

"The Last of Us proves you wrong."
That doesn't sound like you saying you wanted zombie games that are similar to The Last of Us. That sounds like you are claiming The Last of Us is a non generic game with zombies in it. |

It's not generic and it hast the good aspects of zombies with new things thrown into it so that they aren't technically "zombies."
All opinions here, though. |

A lot of people own guns.
I would have joined if not for this. |
