constantly influencing the way a child thinks
like
oh you lost that soccer game
DON'T WORRY
EVERYBODY WINS
YOU GET A TROPHY
AND YOU GET A TROPHY
EVERYBODY GETS A TROPHY :DDD
this is not how it works in the real world
you may be scraping off every single amount of money you have or you could be making millions of dollars
and this applies to so many things
the issue with it is that when this person suddenly doesn't get that trophy are they going to end up going crazy thinking it's the end of the world?
like teaching a child to cope with failure and not getting what you want can go a long way
meanwhile teaching a child that failure will never happen, it just won't do so well when they get older and finally meet a failure that hits way harder than it should

if i was a father i would, of course, watch out for them
but let them cope with their failure |

why not let little kids believe everyone won?
of course they have to learn eventually that someone has to be the winner, and teach them that THEY should be the winner
but for god sakes just let the kids be kids |

I used to hate getting "participation" rewards when I was little. I think it's because I was raised on the philosophy "life's not fair" |

i'm not going to have them kill a person and cope with going to prison
it's just that being so overprotective is tipping the scale way too much

having a balance of protecting your child and letting them see the real world would be nice
like
don't unleash all hell upon them
but don't make them think the world is rainbows and lollipops all the way up until they move out

"but don't make them think the world is rainbows and lollipops all the way up until they move out"
if parents do this then it's just bad parenting
one way or another the kid's going to find out how screwed the world is, the parents either have to show them or the world is going to. |

the world showing them is far worse than the parents showing them
like
you have protective people over you
that's nice
yet
having no protective people?
oh my gosh that would be horrific

the internet taught me more than my parents could have |

"taught me more"
my parents aren't bad but i learned so much
as
if i didn't go on the internet
i would not be at the writers workshop
i would not be reading my work
i would not be writing
i wouldn't even wear what i want to
i would basically be a person i'm not and so fragile to where i'd hurt myself because of it

Everybody wins takes away from the actual competition.
You compete to try to win out over your opponents, the idea of "everybody wins" defeats the whole purpose of playing a soccer game except for like exercise. |
