This idea is simple but complicated at the same time. What I'm suggesting is that a new page be added to the site, or a category in games, that has a list of games that are currently in early development stages. Players could enlist as 'Betas' on the games page, and with the click of a button, they'd be taken to a page where players who have signed their place up for the 'Open Beta' program have a list of things that need to be checked and tested. Beta enlists can then play the game (with no reward or place visit increase to the owner, if that prevents abusing the system) anonymously or with other beta participants and see if the feature is working correctly, and when they leave the place they will have a comment box on the same page. They can enter their comment and then submit it to send a message to the creator of the place, with a subject regarding the place and the content being the comment. This would allow in-dev games to be tested and worked on much more quickly and effectively for the creator. The way a creator could sign their place up for the indev program would be with the Configure Place and Advertise Place buttons. I think the player should only be allowed to sign one place up at a time, and that place would be active for beta enlists for either a set number of days or until a certain number of participants have played or given their feedback. The place would then be taken off the program and the creator would not be allowed to put their place back on the list for a set number of days, to reduce the amount of people trying to abuse the program for popularity.
I really believe this should be added - There are so many games with amazing potential that are given up on because nobody gives them a shot. The anonymity of the place the beta enlist will be joining means that they can't "judge a book by its cover" so every open beta game will have a fair chance. As an unnoticed developer myself, I can vouch that a single comment can carry someone a long way.
Please, if you are part of Roblox's staff, leave some sort of message as a response to let me know you've seen this idea. You probably won't, but it's worth a shot to ask.
So, what does the community think of the idea? |
