Today, our coach told us about this new rule that's in the NFL too, it's called "defenseless player". So this is similar to blindside hitting. Basically what happens is that if you hit someone really hard when they don't even see you, the ref can eject you from the game because that player was defenseless. Some examples:
- So a receiver is making a catch near the sideline and he's in the air about to catch the ball. You run really fast from across the field and as soon as he catches the ball, you hit him, and of course the hit is gonna be raging hard and he's hurt. If the ref(s) feel bad for the player/determined he got hit too hard, you're ejected.
- Quarterback is going for a pass and he's facing a certain direction. While you're on a blitz and got past the blockers and you hit the quarterback really hard from the blindside. If the refs determine he's hurt too much, you're ejected.
And then other ways this sport is starting to get soft, we don't even go in full gear anymore in practice (high school JV/Varsity). I know they wanna keep players safe for the game, but come on! The coach said no tackling in practice, and we're not gonna do those Oklahoma drills and The Ring of Fire and such. Doing those are like the best part of practice :(

That's ridiculous You aren't "defenseless" if you're playing football, you're putting yourself out there, knowing what may happen, and plus getting someone on their blind side is a good tactic if you ask me. |

I'm pretty sure that unnecessary roughness has always been an enforceable rule, it just wasn't always enforced
I dunno though, haven't bothered with football since 8th grade, thought it was lame |

unnecessary roughness is a cheap rule
like if i see a lineman get pegged from the side by a o-linemen blindsiding him nothing gets called but if you see a qb get rekt like a split second after he throws the ball it gets called cause the QB and WRs are a bunch of sissy losers who can't take a hit |

That means hitting the receiver before catching the ball. I'm talking about hitting the receiver like right when he catches the ball, like you kinda timed your hit perfectly. As soon as the ball touches their hands/they clutch it, then you hit. |

@friendship
The hits I'm describing aren't unnecessary roughness. It's just simply the guy getting rekt and he was unfortunate to have received a hard hit. |

Exactly. If the QB and WRs get rekt, that's like a 15 yard penalty right there. |

"rekt"
Sounds unnecessarily rough to get a dude's two knees to touch the ground

It wouldn't really be a tackle if his knees didn't hit the ground. Otherwise, he's still counted as up and he can still run. |

Yea, I know what you're talking about when both his knees hit the ground. I agree it may hurt a little because it's rough. But football is a contact sport, and that stuff will happen. |

I'm a running back and a linebacker. So I've had those times when I'm running near the sideline, thinking that I'll get past the dude trying to dog me. Then he pops me right out of bounds. It hurts a little bit, but not that bad,
And as a linebacker, I have chased down and popped people from across the field. And when we did Oklahoma drills and ring of fire during freshman football, I'll put you on the ground. |

Yeah, but by definition it's unnecessary roughness You don't absolutely need to smash into another dude I'm not against it though, when I played football that was the whole fun on it, smashing into another and slammin' 'em to the ground |

Have you ever done Oklahoma drills or Ring of Fire/Hole in the Rain? |

| I love that feeling. Also the filling of filling the gaps. The fact that you just rekt the running back who thought he was actually gonna gain any yards when you fill right in that gap. |
