honestly, the reason to why they dropped it is quite murky, it could have been to showoff to the USSR about how well their bombs were, to compare the effects, to scare japan etc

the war wouldnt have gone on another 2+ years
if they demonstrated the bombs in a remote area then they would have seen the damage that would have come their way
and even if they didnt surrender, atleast then we could have said we properly warned them, the warning we gave was just a piece of paper that seemed more of a played up threat. |

The Japanese would have NEVER surrendered. Their civilians were known to kill themselves instead of being captured by US troops and the Japanese soldiers would literally kill themselves in battle by doing a suicide charge or crashing a plane into a ship. Invading the Japanese would have resulted in MILLIONS of casualties.
210k deaths (estimated casualties of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) VS Millions (possibly 10 million+)
Atom bomb was the right thing to do. |
