personally, i believe in punishments, i mean, what's stopping the person after his 5 year sentence going out and killing the rest of his family? however, if its a punishment, people WILL remember the consequences, and if they've got any sense, they won't do it, amirite?

| Punishment. Rehabilitation just makes people think that the justice system is too soft, so they can keep committing crime over and over and over again. |

Let me tell you the difference, although many of you are going to be like, ''FALLACY FALLACY ! PERSONAL EXPERIENCE FALLACY'' because you like saying stuff like that.
I steal a few sweets.
Mum tells me not to do it.
I steal a few more sweets.
Mum sends me to my room for a day.
Result = no stealing sweets.

The counter argument is that there are a good amount of wrongly convicts. So is it worth it to be more harsh when innocents can really be effected heavily? Guantanamo Bay has innocents so people are anti water boarding just because that is such a bad punishment.
Just something to think about.. In my opinion though I do agree that we should have a heavier punishment. |

There are 2 different things that people seem to get confused with,
1a/ How the Justice System is supposed to work.
1b/ How the Justice System IS WORKING.
Meaning the idea of the Justice System is probably different from how it's working.

only for the worst of cases should there be more of a focus on punishment. |

| It depends on the crime. Violent crime = punishment, nonviolent offenses where nobody else is harmed = rehab. |

for victimless crimes (drug related) rehab only for violent crime, initially punishment but too severe only ruins the person's life and doesn't teach them anything then focus on rehab for murder, life in prison |
