Is it high enough that a full time minimum wage worker can live off of it?
It's certainly not in the US. Productivity has gone steadily up since 1980, while wages have fallen flat (look up productivity vs wages chart).

Hell to the no.
IF you can even find a job in America, chances are. EVEN IF YOU HAVE BEEN TO SPECIAL SKILLS COURSES. Chances of that job's payment being well enough for anyone to live independently with a car, a house with water and electricity and food, are slim. |

Minimum wage in Canada is $10/h. But there are exceptions of course. Like the minimum wage in a job where you serve alcohol is around $9/h. |

It's a good wage if you only need to support one person (yourself) with it.
If you have a spouse that doesn't work, you can't live off of it. If you have children, you're done for. |

Don't change minimum wage.
It is an incentive to make people not waste their college funds on alch0hol and do something other than support a family on minimum wage. Student loans if you must.
You only need it to survive the transition between high school, college and 100% independence. You shouldn't be trying to support a family on minimum wage, of one person. |

| My household is working for the minimum wage and you can live of it, even if you have children, because you get some welfare then too. The minimum wage is 7€/hour. |

| Minimum wage in the UK is currently £6, but it's been climbing over the years. In 2005 it was only £5, so the situation is getting better. |

| In Germany there is technically no minimum wage at the moment with the exception of some jobs, but you can bring it to court if you think you're getting paid unfairly. A solid minimum wage was just set for 2015 though. |

I don't agree with the minimum wage, unless it's very low, like £3 an hour and you work 10 hours a day. Unless you haven't [BEEP] up, then it's only going to be college students who will have their funds.
I'll break you using riddles, because I'm so ridiculous. |

you can't live off $7 an hour working on minimum wage is not usually a transition job, contrary to what you might think tell the 2 million people working for walmart at minimum wage to just "get a higher paying job" you think anyone wants to struggle to make ends meet? no, of course not |

But intentions are just that. Intentions.
In practice, lots of people who work full time are paid minimum wage. If they could have "just gotten another job" they probably already would have done so. |
