| Eh, can't blame a person for liking a more eastern, art-based language. It's nice to get out of under the legs of Latin. |

...Yet our primitive western languages are what you're actually going to use in daily life. There is literally no point in learning Japanese unless you wish to pursue a career that involves it or move to Japan. If you want to learn useless talents that MIGHT come in handy one day go learn how to pick locks or something. |

Because you will NEVER use it. Literally the only reason you'd ever get the chance to use it in day to day life is to talk behind peoples backs in a foreign language. And all that'll do is piss people off.
I'd advise doing something more worthwhile with your time. |

@matt: "need"
You don't need anything. Btw, he never mentioned anything about "must" or "need"...
"Because you will NEVER use it." Just because YOU will never use it, doesn't mean OTHERS won't. Speak for yourself.
@jjj: Can you not.

We're playing that route? Fine.

Give me one reasonable example of an actual time you will use Japanese in a constructive way during your everyday life in the west. |

Watch Japanese TV, anime without subtitels, talk to friends in Japanese.

First: Unnecessary. That's like learning telekinetic powers so as to throw a baseball. Just use your hand and throw it normally. It's easier and much less of hassle.
2: I said constructive. Very few western children will know Japanese. Speaking to them in a foreign language is just going to piss them off. |

Explain yourself.
There are three ways to watch anime
Dubbed Subbed Or as it aired in Japan.
The first two are easy, simple ways to watch it without learning an entire language. Learning an entire language to do a basic action like watching a show is completely unnecessary.

Alright. Answer this then (honestly) How many people do you know that are from Japan, speak Japanese and are unable or unwilling to speak English? |

Just because they can speak English doesn't mean they can speak it well, or easily. Why make it harder for them? |

You didn't answer my first two questions. As for what you said, you want to know why? Because they're in an English speaking nation. It'll be more beneficial for them if they learn to speak English then for you to learn an entire language just to stagnate their ability to communicate with others. |

Not if you'd like to watch to original without subtitels.

Ofc that's 0 for me. Doesn't mean it's fun. :)
Really, it's just what value one themself sees in it. In reality I can simply say that nothing is necessary. Not even breathing, since living isn't necessary either. Sounds depressing, however, but it's true.

Uh, not it isn't? Our main goal as a species is to survive and continue the existence of the Human race. And even if you were to ague your existence isn't necessary the extinction of a race is a bit of a leap from learning a pointless language.
--- But if you want to learn something, that doesn't mean you need to.
I'm just saying you'd be much better off if you learned to do something constructive with the VERY large amount amount of time you'll need to invest. Like learning how to draw. How to act, how to write novels in the ENGLISH language...Or you could take some relationship course that'll provide you with the skills you need when your online relationship falls apart. |

No, it very well correlated. It shows that we all have our own values in our own actions. Whereas one might not see them, the other does.
