Treating people differently due to the amount of years they have spent on the face of the Earth. Treating them differently because of when they were born.

You've taken this 'Equality' thing too far. Of course age will change the way people are treated.

Of course they are treated differently. Youth are treated like they have no understanding of the real world and that they must revere and respect the glorious adults because they are older and therefore that makes them always right.

Sometimes I do think adult power is taken too far, but there is a place for it.

Like, for example, when a child tries to question or reply to an adult, only to get told "STOP CHATTING BACK TO ME! YOU'RE YOUNGER THAN ME! THEREFORE YOU MUST SHOW ME RESPECT! I DEMAND IT!"

So because they're older, that means they're automatically right? Even if an adult says "1 mile is shorter than 1 kilometer", does that mean that they're right and therefore we need to respect that as a fact and we cannot question it whatsoever?

You can't just tell people to "deal with it" simply because they're older. You should at least be able to attempt to hold an intellectual conversation with someone who's older and not get yelled at for "disrespecting adults."

What I think you're saying is that adults should be able to logically defend their judgement.

Indeed. Instead of yelling "you're younger than me! shut up! respect me!" they should know better and use their logical rationality.

Here's another example: I was at the dermatologist one day, waiting for my appointment. I was 16 at that time, so I should have been able to just get through without having to rely on someone else to be there with me. Or so I thought, because as soon as I got called up, the man who called me up said "you need someone else to be with you, where are they?" and then they told me that I can't be seen because I need to be with someone who is older than me. Therefore, I was unable to get my medicine which I needed, all because I'm "too young" to be independent and see the dermatologist independently. I had to reschedule the appointment to be three MONTHS later, by which time I needed to restart my course of medicine completely.

I hate that kind of stuff, but that's only in place because people will find loopholes and sue.

So by OP's logic 12 year olds should be able to drive cars

I'm 16, though. Therefore, I should be able to see the dermatologist independently. Why is a 16-year-old not seen as capable of making a rational judgement on the use and misuse of prescription medicines?

By most, they are. But its all about the lawyers. Can't have people sueing if something goes wrong.

Even more importantly, the age of 16 is the age of consent in the UK. This also means that we are able to see doctors independently at that age. However, clearly the dermatologist was incompetent and didn't see my date of birth, instead he saw "15 year old boy" (that's what was written on the piece of paper which reported my previous appointment and what occurred. On that previous appointment, I was 15.)

@Man
Are you saying that 12 year olds are incapable of understanding the mechanics of a car?

Further, that just shows a flaw in the justice system. The pharmaceutical company should not be held responsible for what someone does with their prescription medicines. The person who misused the prescription medicines should be held responsible for misuse of a pharmaceutical and an attempt to make easy money by doing so. The person who allowed the misuse of the pharmaceutical should also be held responsible.
