Now, I understand that if you are a principled builder, using free models is out of the question. But in terms of pragmatism, what's so bad about it?
I get that it's using another person's work, but (a) they made it publicly available, and (b) you're the one assembling the place. If you steal an entire place, that's one thing, but by using free models to make a place, you're essentially taking lots of little bits from different sources and putting it together into a unique creation. |

It's not so much the use of free models that is frowned upon, it's the fact that games with free models tend to have false titles/thumbnails and end up being more successful than legitimate games.
Free models are fine to use to learn or to make a test place, but when you outperform other games by using 'unfair' techniques, that's when free models use is frowned upon.
However, due to this situation being a common occurrence, free models have gotten a bad reputation. |

@Fire.
That is where you're wrong. Not every game has free model(s). |

'Every game has ATLEAST one free model.'
That's the stupidest and most incorrect statement I've heard in some time. |

So you're saying using them is an unfair technique. However, the person whose model was used made it public domain. |

'But why is using free models considered a legitimate criticism?'
Because it takes no effort to insert a free model in your game. By not using free models, it shows that you legitimately care about the development of your game and you are willing to develop your skills enough to create what you wish, instead of using an excuse that you "can't build" or "can't script". |

| I can actually answer your question. People criticize people over using free models because it's unfair that their place gets the attention instead of the person who doesn't use free models. |

Free models = less hardwork
Developers who spend countless hours writing code should be more successful than people who quickly hacked together a few free models and scripts and made the front page.
This driving philosophy is why people hate freemodels. |

Using them is not unfair. You must have not understood what I said.
The unfair techniques are false thumbnails, false titles, completely irrelevant advertisements, etc. The reason free-models have developed this negative perspective is because all of these stupid misleading games are full of free models. You will VERY RARELY see a game fully developed by a user have a false title or thumbnail; it's only the free-modelled games that this occurs. |

Making a game completely out of FM's is frowned upon. Using 2-3 FM;s isnt really a big problem and MOST people dont have problems with.
First things first, I'm the realest. |

| Also, as other people said, games with free models sometimes outperform other legitimate games which have taken the developer countless hours to develop, and it's the lazy people making the big bucks through DevEx. Not really fair, but life's not fair either, so I don't really support this argument but some people do. |

| But you're still the one assembling the place. You take pre-assembled bits and pieces and put it all together into a game. |

It's not too bad when using maybe a few, but it's frowned upon mainly because:
1. There are games just as fun that had time and work put into it instead of using free models.
2. Usually, people that use free models never give credit to the original builders, and people that are ignorant tend to praise them without knowing about the free models.
3. Jealousy. There are lots of people that try to make a game using free models, but it doesn't work out, so they bash on the people that do use them and become successful. |

Free models are frowned upon by me if they are used in the following ways:
-If a game is made purely out of free models with no alterations -If a user takes free models and republishes them, claiming them as their own with no alterations |

free modeled place > well built games
Considering the front page has 75% of games that are free-modeled all the way, while there's pretty well made games that are far from getting attention.
That's the legitimate reason to criticize games that uses free-models ^ |

I like a game, I don't care if it only has 2 or 3 Free Models.
But if it has LOTS like Julius, then I have a problem with it. |

I have nothing against using free models UNLESS -You are being a Julius.(publishing models by other people as his own) -Claims to have built the free models yourself. |
