In the Icelandic sagas, it is said that the Norwegian-born Icelander Erik the Red was exiled from Iceland for manslaughter. Along with his extended family and his thralls, he set out in ships to explore icy land known to lie to the northwest. After finding a habitable area and settling there, he named it Grœnland (translated as "Greenland"), supposedly in the hope that the pleasant name would attract settlers.[12][13][14]" |

Siiiggghhhh....
Okay here we go, the vikings didn't want people going to Iceland because of its size, and its green nature, etc. to the vikings Greenland was complete crap so they named them like that. |

Ok when the vikings thought they ruled all, the people tricked them into thinking iceland had ice all over it even tho it was very grassy and could support live stock. And green land was full of grass even tho in realiity it was cold and icy. They did this to get rid of the vikings.and im pretty sure it worked but i dont no
