Here's a little piece of advice for all you aspiring RP makers out there:
When you make a roleplay, make sure you actually have a plot in mind. If you come up with some vaguely interesting idea and post it without actually planning out stuff for your RPers to do, it's going to suck (unless it specifically plays off of the idea of "winging it", like in a nations RP or a creation RP). You can have the greatest premise and setting in the world, but if you don't have a plot, your RP is garbage.
Please, come up with a plot for your roleplay before you post it. |

| This is incorrect... An over-view may also be introduced instead of a plot. |

the problem there, hwen, is having all the roleplayers get bored and leave
more often than not rps without a plot fail |

| Who said it wouldn't have a plot? The over-view is for the world, the individual creates the plots. |

Pokemon World has 1128 pages.
Went on for more than a year.
It died like a boss. |

| hwen you say it as if you're refering to a specific roleplay. this is not refering to a specific roleplay. this thread is made as a sweeping statement and will obviously have outliers but follows the general trend. if the rp is something like "pokemon" then youll have people who just want to play around as a pokemon. but normally this is not the case, and these threads require a plot to keep the roleplayers interested and have them stay or they leave. |

i have only had one rp which had a planned plot
most of the time having a structured plot fails because rpers are goofs |

Er, you could say that I was referring to the "Free-Roam" genre in my statement. But, the plot equals incentive, keeping in that range will keep interest for the player. An over-view would just suggest what plots are available, and allow players to collaborate to create the plot that fits with the world.

| Yeah, my major clink with his logic is "Please make a plot BEFORE posting your roleplay." |

| what you're saying works in theory, but experience and evaluation have told me that everyone who joins a free roam roleplay has their own conflicting plot in mind and when it doesn't work out they get bored and leave. planned plot works much better for your model, it gives a motive it gives reason for the motive and it gives a reason to roleplay. what creates the roleplay is the actions of the characters and how they deal with the situation and further the plot |

there has been no plot for any of my rps that have been successful. [i count successful as 50+ pages] it was more like a slight overview with what you are fighting or doing, where it is, and giving you your supplies.
all i do is try and get you there alive. |

Ah-ha, but my theory has worked... The over-view has been used in Cartoon roleplay, and Galatic Conquest. However, this is just one of the suggestions an "Over-view" roleplay can give. Honestly, structured, "plot" roleplays can give a more enjoyable experience, though not for the long term. I suggest either simple over-view in the confines of a single area (Like Winter's Blaze.) or structured roleplay forum. |
