prog metal that falls under another genre (prog death, prog thrash, etc) is generally pretty good
'straight' prog metal though is mostly lame aside from Devin Townsend, Fates Warning, Tool, and early Dream Theater |

Cynic, Death (late cus their early stuff is brutal death), Dream Theater, Tool, Opeth, Atheist, Obscura, Born Of Osiris, Pestilence, Nevermore, Coroner, Forbidden, Annihilator, Dark Angel, and Toxik are all pretty good

actually, Annihilator and Toxik aren't really progressive thrash, just normal thrash, i think
