A legit company has a bunch of stocks and you're an investor so you invest. But then the company isn't legit anymore and takes everyone's money.
Like Google. According to logic, person can be as legit as they want and still scam. So google could scam every one of their investors and their money. Yet you trust google with your online shopping and form filling (which they can EASILY record).
Totally your fault for being so gullible.

Well that's not how stocks work
Stocks are sold by the company originally. After that, they move around from investor to investor to investor on the stock exchange; the company controls nothing.
Although a company may hand out dividends, its not required. So you could have a company do nothing, you'd still make money from trading your stocks to other people.
The only thing the company does is run. The company can't scam with it because the owners would have stocks; there's no set owner without those stocks. Whoever has the most stocks owns the most of the company. So, obviously, if the company scams, that just means the owner's cheating himself.
... am I too much into accounting?

ok that was fun stuff tho so much fun
end of the course project was to study costco and see how they were doing in their business. apparently their business is losing money in selling stuff, but since they have memberships, they end up profiting from membership fees. fun.

| Well yeah. Costco is the most BS company to date. I broke a phone (not even supposed to return it if user broken) after the warranty and an employee gave me the same one but with an extended warranty. |
