| It's funny how everyone talks about being better at soccer than the US. We don't even have our top tier athletes playing soccer like every other country, soccer players are the lowest of athletes in the US. Could you imagine America putting NFL and NBA players on the soccer team? No one could come close to playing us. |

In the 1980s it was popular for upper and middle class families.
Hence the rise of the minivan and "soccer moms" before that it was tennis. |

"Could you imagine America putting NFL and NBA players on the soccer team?" Then they would have lost to Germany even more lol If that happened then half of the team would get arrested for committing a crime the other half get killed in a shootout with a rival gang or drug overdose |

Not even, NFL and NBA players could outrun anyone that plays soccer. |

Football sounds more logical.
American Football makes no sense, as you're using a Hand and an egg. So it should be American Handegg. In football, we use a FOOT and a FOOTBALL hence the name Football.
Futbol is a different language |

in the 19th century there were two types of football. association football and rugby football. those were shortened to rugger and soccer colloquially. the 19th century is also when american football (called this because of the ball being one foot long) came to be. rather than come up with a new name for it, they kept it as football and also kept soccer to avoid confusion. |

Why do americans use the term "futbol" while comparing the two words when they don't speak spanish.
You can say football, you speak english.
It won't kill you. |

The term soccer originated in the UK. Soccer was used by the Upper Class. The Middle class and Lower class called it football, little by little Soccer became erased and the high class started calling it football.
This did NOT spread to other countries(US, Canada, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand) because they already had sports for "football"
Soccer is short for Association Football, if you did not know. |

We'd still lose >.>
Those players know how to play their game, not soccer, you can't just take a football player and throw him into a soccer field and say play and expect him to be superb >.>

| Well, if you take the kickers of professional football teams, you could put together a pretty good soccer team. That, and a few hockey goalies, and the team is now indestructible. |
