Yeah I was reading up on it. I guess it depends on that and your determination. I just have no idea where I can learn it.

Ive studied for about two days

I can easily recognize a free model script and how it works.

In about a month or two i should be a master at it.

You won't master it in a month or two, not a chance.

People like CloneTrooper have been scripting for like 4 years to get where they are today.

If you notice most the Devs with good games (not front page filth) have been around for years because it does not take a month to master, like that guy above me said.

I've been doing it for around a year and a half now and there's nothing I don't know anymore. Sometimes I need help working out hard math equations for my game when using sine and cosine and stuff but that's because I've not learned it in school yet.

Not true.

Jist because they have been around for a while does not mean they have not already mastered scripting...

Just means they can script and still continue to do so.

regardless, you're not going to fully understand the fundamentals of Lua in a 'month', despite the fact you're smart.

It depends on the person, their method of learning, and how much previous coding experience they've had. For someone who's bad at math and has no coding experience, it could take years. Someone who already has lots of coding experience can master a new language in a couple months.

Someone could script "pretty good" in 6 months , yes.

Not "master it in a month or two" like you said lol

To master it you must understand what's going on "behind the scenes" and how it all really works. That's something that takes like 2 years.

Bottom line is you won't master it in 2 months. And you won't be making "the best game" any time soon.

Take your own advice, quit.

Yeah for the record if you've mastered other languages (not a markup) then it could be a couple months.

But if it's your first like OP and this guy, then lol no

And I have to agree with smiley, unless you're a professional programmer who has needed to learn languages quickly in the past, you probably won't master Lua in a month or two. There are lots of nuances that you can only learn with experience.

I am considering coding for a career. I'm not sure if that's the right terminology. Thanks for the tips guys. I hope to find a teacher because I noticed reading off the the Lua site wouldn't be as good as having a teacher to help you with your questions. Also I am sorry for this thread starting a flame war.

Which brings me to another question, do you think a teacher is necessary? If it's not necessary a teacher would sure help right? I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or a useless question. But I would appreciate if someone would reply.

Though during the flame war you guys did help answer my question. :)

It's not your fault a flame war started.

I also want to do coding for a career.
It's not easy finding a teacher because people aren't dedicated to helping someone for nothin (maybe a few would for Robux).
A teacher isn't necessary; I never had one and I've mastered Lua now (except the useless stuff like metatables).

Use the cookbook and the scripting book, two ROBLOX wiki things that are really helpful. Google them both (eg 'cookbook ROBLOX wiki') and it will come up.

Well, I learned most of what I know on my own in the past 3 years, and I was like 10 back then. But Youtube is VERY Helpful along with this forum, just test out scripts, mess around, its not gonna kill you! Anyone on scripting helpers would be more than glad to help you, its what we like doing! Here is a channel that is quite helpful:

If you don't know metatables you haven't mastered Lua either.
