California the current sytem costs $137 million per year; it would cost $11.5 million for a system without the death penalty. (California Commission for the Fair Administration of Justice, July 2008)
Maryland death penalty cases cost 3 times more than non-death penalty cases, or $3 million for a single case. (Urban Institute, The Cost of the Death Penalty in Maryland, March 2008)
Tennessee, death penalty trials cost an average of 48% more than the average cost of trials in which prosecutors seek life imprisonment. (2004 Report from Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Office of Research)
Death penalty case costs were counted through to execution (median cost $1.26 million). Non-death penalty case costs were counted through to the end of incarceration (median cost $740,000). (December 2003 Survey by the Kansas Legislative Post Audit)

| IMO; Death penalty is okay to be served for people who've committed multipe-murders. |

The Death Penalty costs more than putting someone in jail.
Ok this is true, but what if it was someone that needed to die? Terrorism? |

No person "needs" to die. They should not randomly die by authority, give them a shutdown at a prison, for instance, Guantanamo Bay. |

| It doesn't matter how much a punishment cost as long as it is just. |

Death penalty should go like this;
Check the person was guilty. Check again. (this should take less than 2 years)
If he is STILL found guilty, execution should occur within 5 years of incarceration with whatever method the state uses to execute prisoners.
The prisoner gets his last meal of his choosing, a pastor if he is religious, then off to a quick and painless death. |

| What if someone wants to see that sucker dead and corrupts everyone. Also I mean you could argue:"What if your family was killed?" To that I would respond:"What if your family did the killing?" |

Take the guys out back and shoot him. No funds required. |

@Cash
There is the funds for bullets. The best form is to take a rope and a tree, we can reuse a rope. |

No rope required. |

| I am not sure but why do we have the death penalty? Also the law is supposed to be just and do you call it just for finite crime to get permanment punishment? And really if you use tax money to get the stuff to kill these people you make us ALL murders. It also is hypocritcal to kill someone who has killed others. |

| The reason why the Death Penalty costs so much is because they don't put a bullet through the Prisoner's head as quickly as possible. . They have to wait years before they decide to execute the Prisoner. |

Besides, the Death Penalty is an unpopular punishment.
I would rather go with no parole and no restitution rather than being shot by a bunch of fat rednecks who are overpaid. |

I think only one state uses the firing squad, and rarely.
All states that have death penalty use lethal injection (as far as I know) |

The death penalty costs so much because of the way they do it.
Either shoot 'em or hang 'em. |

After the guilty has been checked several times, take him out to a room and shoot him. All it would require is a single shot in the head.
I completely ridicule myself in my ridiculous spelling. -Riddler- |
