The locking of servers, from what I have seen, is commonly done in training sessions for groups. In this article, I will present my opinions on the locking of servers, why it is bad, and back it up with evidence.
Locking a server, specifically a training server, does what it's meant to: keep the players in and the enemies out. What if a player crashes, or has to leave for a few minutes? They can't rejoin, because of one command: /serverlock. The locking of a server is very ineffective because of that. In fact, all you need to do is just make a script that, when activated, just kicks all of the teams except the team that owns the place once it detects a few people on said other teams.
To back up my opinions, I shall provide evidence. I myself have been a common victim of being locked out of group training servers, because I sometimes crash and my mouse arrow sometimes likes to move on its own, usually to a corner of the screen where the 'X' button is located. On top of that, people in my current main group are commenting, saying to unlock the server. If that's not proof enough that locking a server is a bad idea, I have no idea what is.
I am allowing people to reply to this post to see their opinions. I hope that if you are a clan leader, or clan high-rank, and you lock servers, that this article has changed your mind. See below for TL;DR version if you don't like reading Great Text Walls of China.
TL;DR - Locking a group training server is a stupid idea. |

They're locked because anyone who comes late basically interrupts it. No trainers will be interested in going through all of the things already done simply because one guy decided to come in late. If your late, its your fault, not they'res.

| locking servers is useless and shouldn't even be used, if someone comes late, they usually say, " sorry i'm late " or something along those lines. 'THATS SUCH A BIG INTERUPTION, OMG I CANT HANDLE IT, RQ'. is basically what you mean, seriously get a grip, if you can't handle a few interruptions then i'd demote you, trainers are suppose to know how to handle interruptions, not just completely ignore them. |
