because of terror squad: think of what bigroom house is doing to the rest of edm, now think about what terror squad is doing to dubstep
first, skrillex made a work-in-progress song with the sound
zomboy took the sound and made it own, and it became huge: http://youtu.be/p6eER7elUPs skrillex changed his original song to give the biggest finger to zomboy: http://youtu.be/6JYIGclVQdw
and from there, almost every artist has been trying to ride on the success: http://youtu.be/rEL-HdWvLpM http://youtu.be/zgd3l-HlwPw (i was actually yelled at by mantis personally because i called them out) http://youtu.be/HvwBmmNO2iM and pretty much every must die song nowadays
the fact that pegboard nerds and mantis made songs like that, the artists i trusted most with creativity and integrity, i am on the verge of giving up on the entirety of dubstep if this sound continues. it has its amazing songs every once in a while, but i shouldn't have to find one of those after hearing 20 terror squads. it's actually not stagnating at all, despite the fact that the #2 top seller on beatport dubstep charts is a two-year-old song that was officially released recently, and the #1 top seller is my third link (pegboard nerds - here it comes).
for reference, here is the song that pegboard nerds had released before: http://youtu.be/5lLclBfKj48 the song that mantis had released before: http://youtu.be/sPX-BdS5SCg and zomboy's last song before terror squad: http://youtu.be/lP-qTcsOpxs
notice the huge difference in sound, before and after? this is what terror squad has done to dubstep.
can we agree that terror squad is awful and needs to die a horrible death? might as well throw zomboy in the same pit as well, he is as sellout as it gets, not only did he popularize the terror squad trend (not a bad thing on his part, but he's continuing with it) but he also made a bigroom house song.
(also, here comes the "LOL DUBSTEP DIED TWO YEARS AGO" comments) |

techincally dubstep will always be around
it's just that if you thought skrillex's old sound was annoying, terror squad will make you want to turn it off in under a second |

dubstep's not dying. it'll still carry on, just like drum and bass. look at artists like cookie monsta, datsik, funtcase, etc. they're still going strong.
but yeah zomboy and skrillex put a bad face on a good genre |

"Also here's my favorite song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alDuyHCNfhE"
why did i even bother copypasting that
"dubstep's not dying. it'll still carry on, just like drum and bass. look at artists like cookie monsta, datsik, funtcase, etc. they're still going strong."
if dnb is a sign of anything, it's not the world's brightest future, but it's not awful anyway. i wonder if it gets boring having the same 3-5 artists top the dnb charts, no exception, and having the most bitter community of all time.
never really been a fan of cookie monsta, but he's still alive and kickin', glad he has some integrity to not do terror squad, so there's that.
datsik has lost all identity. he hardly ever makes his own songs before. he's so busy running firepower records, that the requirements has become "i'll let you join firepower, as long as you collab with me". i think he just got so frustrated with his fans. he changes his style, "NEW DATSIK SUCKS GO BACK TO OLD DATSIK", he goes back to old datsik, "when will he get a new sound? it's so stale and repetitive", no pleasing his fans.
and funtcase still exists?
but really, the only truly strong artists left sticking with the scene are barely alive (worried about their future though, might become zomboy 2.0), varien, excision, eptic, getter, seven lions, flux pavilion, and maybe virtual riot. i still have hope from pegboard nerds and mantis though, both of them have only let me down once after a long track record of being good. there's also occasionally a release in what feels like once an eternity from some other artists, like space laces (his new song is soooo good though), cookie monsta, skism, etc.
but seriously, the new space laces song is so tight. http://youtu.be/CoBJovzOJ5U |

this is a pretty accurate statement. Even the (mainstream) dubstep artists I like have either moved on to other genres or else are not changing what they are doing at all. |

mainstream edm has been crap for years, even moreso with bigroom house. the deeper side has always been decent, not my style but still.
i wish i could put all the terror squad dubstep in its own genre so i could easily avoid it |
