Do you remember that one time when you were strolling through the park, enjoying the scenery? Do you remember having to struggle to keep your balance, slipping and sliding back and forth across the concrete path? Do you remember losing that balance and careening into a wall, where you promptly tipped over onto your face and got back up again? Well, it's been HAPPENING TO ME ALL DAY. I was visiting My Home place again, just for fun since it had been awhile. As I approached the house, I noticed that my movement seemed slightly... off. A bit slippery. I dismissed this and entered the house. This was the point where I transitioned from thick concrete to thin carpet. Almost immediately after I stepped on the carpet, I began to slip n' slide to and fro, as if I had stepped in an ice skating rink. I bumped into the wall multiple times as I made my way to the kitchen. This was the point where I transitioned from thin, whole piece carpet to wooden, multiple-piece floors. Control became even more frustrating. Now I was slightly clipping through the floor and sliding all FLIPPING OVER. To see if it was just my house, I went over to an obstacle course that I built just the other day. This obstacle course was built under the old (MORE STABLE) physics engine. While most of the course played out just fine, the parts near the end really suffered. I was constantly slipping off the thin walkways, bouncing off the walls into pits of death... NONE OF WHICH WERE PROBLEMS THE OTHER DAY! Roblox, think about it this way; if I make a concrete slab, I WANT IT TO BE A CONCRETE SLAB. Not ice, not water, CONCRETE. Really, how do you even mess something SO BASIC up? |

I know this has always been an issue. But the issue intensified SOOOO DRASTICALLY just earlier today, around the time the update was released. |

It isn't ice, it is simple inertia.
Previously, you could run, jump, and come to a dead stop. Not really possible with realistic physics. Generally, when you run and jump, it takes a step or two to stop yourself. While we didn't go that far, we have introduced a slight bit of momentum/inertia. |

We can cancel this by jumping right? Or just moving backwards. |

Maybe you people don't understand what I mean. Go to the kitchen at this place and try walking around. http://www.roblox.com/My-Home-place?id=12441750 Maybe you'll see what I mean? |

As long as we can jump from platform to platform without sliding 3 studs foward everything will be k. |

Depending on the type of floor you've got, try this.
(make sure you're wearing socks)
briskly walk down the hallway, then instantly try to spin around and walk in the opposite direction to which you are moving.
What will happen in most cases: your feet slide, your spin, and then can begin to walk. This is pretty much exactly what is now happening on ROBLOX. |

"As long as we can jump from platform to platform without sliding 3 studs foward everything will be k."
But that is my main gripe with this issue! At my obstacle course, jumping from platform to platform was so much more difficult! I would land on the platform, slide forward, and try to walk the other way to balance myself. But as I would turn, the side of my torso would hit a wall and bounce me off the edge. |

Just tried out the test Gordon posted and I fell over, broke my neck, and now I'm dead.

Gordon, I understand how realistic physics work. But do I WANT realistic physics in my whimsical floating obstacle courses and houses? NO, I DON'T. Could there at least be an option for this or something? (also does my avatar look like he's wearing socks?) |

| On a more serious note, I could accept having a short stop after turning, but I'm quite literally sliding around (especially on stairs for some reason) |

| And like OP said, it's only happening on thinner bricks. On thick ones, it's like there wasn't even an update. |

"...I could accept having a short stop after turning, but I'm quite literally sliding around (especially on stairs for some reason)"
Guess I should've pointed that out earlier. A little delay on turning? That makes sense. Struggling to climb simple stairs as if I've undergone some sort of seizure? Not so great. |

@lolgonewrong ...maybe it's just the weight of my hats? Honestly at this point, I don't know. But its not so much of the distance (half a stud) that affects it. Its the sudden transition from precise movement to slightly-slippery in just a single day that is so jarring to me. |

| If the collision part of the update has to be removed, please at least keep the velocity update! |

I am totally up for a rollback at this point. But the whole new system could do a lot for new places, sure creates a lot of ideas. Simply put though, it breaks old places. Kind of like how we can enable/disable Global Lighting, could there possibly be a way for some places to use the old physics engine and others the new? |

I conveniently have a place with way more stairs than would ever be needed:

however I'm not exactly sliding and falling off them... |

That's only a problem with small blocks placed closely together, but not touching. It's been like that for a long time and the best solution is to put one large, single block covering all of them, just above it. (I do this in my places; especially with hardwood floors) |

@Gordon
1. Why do you have a place with a bunch of stairs? 2. After my post about stairs, I pointed out that it only happens on stairs made with thin bricks (and thin bricks in general). Sorry it was in a second post, I just forgot to clarify in the initial one. |
