According to the BMI, I am overweight (my BMI is 27.1, which is considered in the overweight range).
I am a male, and I am 6"5, and active (me being involved in photography has me hiking to different places). I can see my ribs in the mirror, but I have a slight "belly" as well (it's hardly noticeable, honestly).
My mom is insistent on the fact that I am fat. I am not obese, I know very well what that looks like.
I don't know why I am posting this here, frankly I have low enough self esteem, but it got even lower when my mom said I was "fat".
My friends and family (except for my mom) tell me that I am not fat, but I think they are trying to make me feel better about myself. I have skipped meals before (both at home and school [when it was in session, that is]) just so I could stop being 'fat'.
I know no one here really cares, I know this is a children's game and I should post this somewhere else, I am looking for attention, but mainly for attention from someone who I can be open with about this.
I have choir camp coming up within the next month (my second year doing so), and we have a pool-party thing there and I honestly don't even want to go because of that pool party. In this choir, we dance as well which is very demanding, and after any show we put on, I feel great.
I do have an exercise regime I am following (to be honest I have not done it in about a week or so) and I really just want somebody to talk to because nobody in real life wants to have a conversation about it.
Yes, I know it is weird for a guy to be concerned about something like this, but I have always had low self esteem.
For anyone reading this, I at least thank you for taking time out of your day to read it. |

| Please at least don't skip meals. If you really would like to shed a few pounds, use a safe diet. It may take time, but it will be worth it and will cause less damage to your body. |

| Well, I won't pity you. But, if your mother is calling you 'fat' or 'obese' tell her off! Not as in 'Don't call me fat you (insert whatever here)'. Just tell her you do not want to be called fat and/or obese, and you already have low self esteem. |

you have to learn to live with yourself man sometimes we look to other people to agree or disagree and then improve based on what they do or don't think truth is, in the end, it won't be them with you, to protect or hurt, criticize or laud, it'll just be you by yourself so in order to not feel too bad when someone else doesn't think you look good, or dress good, etc., you have to judge yourself and find out what YOU like looking like before anyone else can that way, when they judge you, you can take it because it's your choice, not theirs |

@Naruto,
That is, to be honest, one of the best pieces of advice I have ever received. Thank you.
@Aberforth,
I have been reducing my portions (I'm not growing anymore, so I figured I probably should, for a while I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. That's changed.)
@Mikeyman,
236.....

Heh, ever since I've lost weight, my mom keeps calling me "poor".
The thing was, I was tired of being chubby, and I'm just one inch shorter than you. My family calls me the same, but I don't care, because they like to play around a lot.
My family all weights in the 200s, but like the very very low 200s. I'm floating at 175 - 180.
Thing is, don't pay them much attention. You do you, and nobody can't stop you! |

Honestly, by your description, you don't seem overweight at all. You're a pretty tall guy, and you're gonna to weigh more just because you're that much taller. And it's more important first and foremost to be healthy than worry about how much you weigh. And @Naruto is right; you gotta learn to feel good in your own skin, otherwise it's not going to matter even if you were the most perfect looking person in the world.
I'd say, if you honestly feel like you need to make a change, go to your doctor and work with them to make an exercise/nutrition plan that will be best for you. Everyone's body is different; what worked for someone in a magazine may not be healthy for you. I have friends who the most part eat way healthier and exercise more than me, but losing weight has been a long process for them. And then I have another guy friend who's in his mid 20's and he's super thin. He could eat and eat and eat, but he just can't seem to gain weight. |

by most standards you aren't very overweight in BMI standards you're mid-range overweight but you aren't really near being obese/fat |

Thank you to everyone who posted. While I still have several emotional hurdles to get over, this forum, as pathetic as it may sound, actually lifted my spirits a bit.
A gym is opening up in my town and my brother's and I have all looked into getting memberships in it. That will certainly help a lot.
Once again, I know this forum is supposed to be mainly for 'goofy' stuff, but I really had no where else to to turn to (is that sad?).
Thank you all so much. |
