I tried the wiki but I think it's untrustworthy considering the second script it teaches you doesn't even work.

That's basically how I learned it, LuaLearners was pretty helpless for me.

Ask someone an working script or take one from "Free Models", then try to learn what each function of the script does. If you start feeling a little more confident, start editing the script the way you would like it to work.
This is a method how i am learning Lua right now. |

Read the PIL (Programming in Lua) to get the basics of Lua. (e.g syntax, functions, etc)
Then, when you think you're ready, learn RBX.lua. I used the wiki for reference most of the time.
RBX.lua and Lua have very little differences; RBX.lua is plain Lua with a bunch of APIs tied to it, while Lua is the regular programming language it is.
