I like The Shawshank Redemption and The Lion King too.
I know that the moderator has different than what he writes, because he's at least over 18, and he names stuff like "Wreck-It-Ralph" and "The Princess Bride". It's probably like a Tarantino or violent Kubrick movie.

| Considering you posted some of the most popular movies of all time. Lion king and Shawshank? Shawshank was up for best picture. That's like saying Titanic is a cult film. |

| @ITSONICTHEHEDGEHOGXX That's more the traditional definition of a cult film, when it specifically meant underground films. I think now it generally applies to films that have a really big fan following and subculture surrounding it. |

@ITSONICTHEHEDGEHOGXX Nah, nah, it's not so much a mainstream fan following. It's more like, you know the movies that certain fans love to quote, and have special gatherings and reunion screenings long after it's been released, and sometimes even have viewings with audience participation? For instance, at PAX they had a showing of the 1989 (?) movie The Wizard. And at Comic Con, they have sing along viewing of Dr. Horrible.
And successful movies can count in this too. Frozen was very successful, and I would say it has probably become a cult film at this point. Repeated showings after the initial run (even a sing along viewing), a very devoted fanbase outside just the normal kids. |

| that's just lame. there's nothing special about it in that case, of course a largely popular movie will gain devoted fans. that's how anything works. Are we gonna see Simba and Mr. Pink in the same light now? I'll stick with the original meaning. |
