I am going to compare ROBLOX to another free game making platform, Unity, and show why ROBLOX fails in comparison:
1: Content Restrictions First, let me get this out of the way: With the exception of decals, you have to pay large fees in order to put special content into the game. For example, want custom sound? That will be 100 ROBUX. Want achievements? That will be another 100 ROBUX. Custom animations? 30 ROBUX. Custom meshes? Haha, forget about it. With Unity, you can do all these things for free.
2: Content Restrictions, Part 2. The ROBLOX rules are incredibly strict, which makes sense, the community is oriented at kids. However, if a game is even slightly stepping over this boundary, it gets taken down. Freedom is a big thing when it comes to creating games, and the rules put a damper on this. Once again, Unity is free of this.
3: Hostility towards developers ROBLOX isn't directly insulting developers, but seems to go out of its way to toy with them. First of all, ROBLOX releases updates whenever it wants without patch notes, so developers have a harder time fixing their games. Not to mention the fact that the community seems to encourage guarding your methods of building and scripting, making the quality game makers into a VERY SMALL minority. Unity has an extensive web of tutorials and freely available content that causes the amount of quality game developers on Unity to number in the thousands.
Now, to be fair, ROBLOX is better than Unity in some ways: On ROBLOX, it is much easier to distribute your game. The site provides you with the tools you need to upload, advertise, and make money off your game. On Unity, you are on your own. There is also the fact that the premium experience on ROBLOX only costs 20$ a month at maximum, while the premium version of Unity costs $1,500. There is also the fact that, on ROBLOX, you can get quality plugins for cheap, while on Unity, they can cost a lot.
tl;dr: Unity is ultimately better than ROBLOX, but ROBLOX has its own advantages.

@stick
I swear you are being sarcastic, because you are acting exactly like the stereotypical closed-minded forumer.

| Although I did take the time to read the post, I probably didn't really need to do so to know that the title is probably true. |

At the end of the day, roblox is fun to mess around building with but nothing more. If I wanted to start a serious project, really try to create my own game, roblox is the last place I would go. Not that it isn't okay. I've made some games on here before and put a decent amount of work into them, but ultimately, roblox is a way for kids to design games in an extremely simple manner compared to trying to figure out how to use an engine. |

@Phil
As you can see from the first post on this thread, not everyone thinks like you.

Why are you comparing ROBLOX with Unity? 1: Content Restrictions ROBLOX needs money.

Roblox wasn't meant to be the best game creation platform. Unity is better alone

You would also have to consider that Roblox is based off of a younger age group hence the cheaper price. It's a lot easier market atm to make money off of

Well if ROBLOX made badges, sounds and so on free, it'd most likely put the most weighty load on their servers imaginable and make the mods work over-clock.
So really ROBLOX has limitations, but for good reasons. |

| ROBLOX does release a changelog everytime they update ROBLOX, whether it be for iOS, Studio or the Player for Mac and PC. |

@Levras
Then, we must ask ourselves: How did ROBLOX manage before they began charging ROBLOX for everything?

| Actually, ROBLOX releases patch notes to known developers via developer.roblox.com and this wiki page. http://wiki.roblox.com/index.php?title=Change_Log/2014/June |

"Then, we must ask ourselves: How did ROBLOX manage before they began charging ROBLOX for everything?"
Well, lets answer this with another question: How many players were on ROBLOX before they decided this? |

| Personally I feel like ROBLOX is designed for younger people and much easier game development while Unity is designed for people aimed at professional game development, and people that already have experience. ROBLOX is a lot easier to make games with, you can go right into it without knowing anything about programming or game development period. |

That new blog post about them at E3, and them being 'better', really got to me.
Don't disrespect great platforming/sandbox games. You're never going to be like them, nor are you now. Stop acting like you're superior, ROBLOX. |

@Levras
Sure, there were less, but here's my other point:
If they are really in the red when it comes to finances, then how can they afford to give thousands away to developers?

This website was made mostly for kids, although I do do know lots of teens play it. Unity obviously is for older people...
Why would you even compare this to roblox? |
