(Buying things for your personal army. You're supposed to take a army and conquer the entire world while expanding Rome's influence by creating settlements and cities that can be taxed and taken under your will.)

(Every unit costs 1 Gold, unless you're buying Auxiliary units which cost .5 gold. On the early stages of your conquest it will just primarily settling down. After you've established a full settlement, you can begin to mine gold from your mines. The average for early settlements is about 45 per turn. (A turn is every two posts)

@Teh; This is all actually historically accurate. It IS resembled in Total War: Rome, but otherwise it should be apart of Roman archives. Arcani are basically assassins.
[Birm] A Roman soldier walks up to you and reports a small barbarian settlement is off to the west coast. Reports say Carthage supplies these barbarians against Rome and it's allies. Hannibal is rumoured to sail the seas around the settlement, too.

Arcani were Roman agents in Britain, but not assassins.
And they never had hoplites.
But I was just pointing this out, if you wanna have it that way then go ahead |

(Very well... remove the Arcani. But there is historical proof of Roman Hoplites. I mean, they're also counted as spearmen.... but whatever. :P)

(As I delve into the depth of my research, I now see you're right. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Instead of hoplites Birm, they're legionnaire swordsmen.)

Your soldiers begin to march towards the barbarian encampment. As you continue on to the coast, the land begins to become clay. As the sun stays overhead, the clay hardens. The settlement seems to be rather greek styled. Docks board ships that hold loot and plunder from previous raids.

The barbarians had seen your army from the previous day and had sent word to a Carthaginian settlement not too far from the barbarian settlement. Six Carthaginian ships are to help keep the barbarian settlement. Each ship contains twenty Iberian Infantry and ten war-hounds.

You manage to scrape up some civilians, train them and put them to the metal in your army. This gains you about 100 javelin auxiliaries.

Your scouts recover that three of the six previous Carthaginian ships have gone back to the nearest settlement. Weak log-fences are set up around the settlement to try to protect it. Archer towers have been installed every few meters between each other.

| I send most of the army to destroy the barbarians. The soldiers in front are to have their shields out, while the ones behind them keep it at a tilted angle to block the arrows coming from the towers. All javelin men Re to stay back, throwing their javelins at the arrow towers. Slingers do the same. |

As your force pursues, war-mongrels charge towards your men. The javelins manage to impale a few, but the others hit some of the slingers on the wall. Your slings, having more nimble ammunition shoot towards the archer towers, being rather effective. The archers begin to use the oil from the gatehouse and light up flaming arrows. This begins to scare your men, yet the continue to press forward.
