Well i saw some people asking about this so I decided to make a thread on it. If you have any other opinions/ideas feel free to add on to this. Its mostly meant for people trying to stay focused on a project/game *Right forum?? Should i have posted in Game Design??* -----------------------------------------
A) Plan things ahead of time If you write things down and know what you have to do/get done you'll be able to get alot more work done in shorter periods of time than trying to build stuff off the top of your head. Next time, before you try working on a game, try planning things out ahead of time and it will help you stay focused while also staying motivated to make your game
B) Take breaks When you try working non-stop for too long you may begin to get tired or lose interest in what you are working on. Taking breaks from your game to plan/refresh is really helpful as it helps you: A) stay focused and B) not give-up If you start to get tired in working on a game try taking a break and reset, it can really help!
C) Set Goals Try setting goals for yourself to reach and if need be, change those goals so you always have to work towards them. If you ask me its much easier trying to build a game when you know you are working to beat a certain goal you have set for yourself. Things like getting 1K+ visits/favs or making it to the front page are things that may help you stay dedicated to working on your game.
D) Inspiration It really helps when you have something to keep you inspired/motivated to continue working on a game. Try looking at things that you respect or maybe look up to and maybe you can find some inspiration from that. When I'm trying to stay motivated for something I like to take a break and spend a day or too looking at some of the amazing creations I've seen and work to make my idea even better! |

I think you got the forum right on the money smurf, you are actually speaking to the builder in all of us who wants to make something epic, but may get disheartened by the little setbacks we may have along the way.
Another suggestion perhaps; If you are having difficulties don't get too upset. They say Rome wasn't built in a day, and I seriously doubt any front page game was made in a day either. The cool thing about ROBLOX is that if you are having issues, 3 or 4 clicks away (Save your game, click on 'Games' and choose one) is a great way to blow off steam or snipe a noob or two hundred. Then when you are ready to build you may have seen something along the way that gives you an idea of how to solve the issues in your game. I have spent months building both of my games and still find little ways to make them more fun or visually better. I have both saved to my computer so if I feel so inclined I can just load the other one up and enyoy it. |
