World-wide plague, nuclear explosions, Earth's population dwindling, dilapidated cities, toxic waste, and the starving undead hoards themselves. Sure, they're "scary". When they jump at you from a screen you get squeamish and you can tear them to shreds or smash them to smithereens without the guilt of actually killing something. Posts about "I can't wait for the zombie apocalypse," are reblogged thousands of times because delusional ego-inflated twerps think that this fictional event would give them the chance to "prove themselves".

Oh, yeah, you've killed a few zombies. But who noticed? Everyone's dead and you're pinned down in an abandoned plane hangar by mindless creatures that want to end you. Totally worth it.

Technically the post-apocalyptic genre is a fantasy wherein many have died and you're put in charge of lawless land filled with walking, decomposing creatures. It also happens to be a modern trend. What's not disheartening about that?

I'm sure a lot of people find it exciting, but it's just so popular so it had to be deconstructed with logic.

I'm for this. Someone needs to redefine the medieval fantasy genre, get something new to think about. Tol-kien's wars between Orcs and Humans has been running the scene for long enough, bless his heart, and some innovation should be instated.

Because it makes for some thought-provoking conversation starters, doesn't it? I know this isn't a discussion board but, I mean, might as well if nothing else is going on. I like to have mental stimulation.

If zombies were ever to occur, they would be extremely violent human beings. That is all. There shouldn't be an apocalypse, either. They'll probably be put in asylums and such, and if you were to kill them, you'd most likely be arrested.
Once it's legal to strike, well, it will be fun. That's if they ever will be real, of course.

and while we're on the subject of zombies...

how the hell would an apocalypse even begin? it could easily be stopped, you know

some scientists could be mucking around with dead people and then, all of a sudden, those dead people become zombies

the scientists would freak out, but that doesn't mean they couldn't call the military to assist them in some way

the military people would probably freak out too... but then again, they'd probably just bomb the source of the zombie thing, and then the zombie apocalypse is prevented

@cheek

so far, the only way is to inject somebody with a fluid that will make them extremely violent.

Yes, but I feel like that would be enabling human brutality. They are humanoid and we once human, after all, and since they aren't undead but rather deranged, it would still be like killing another human being. If it was in self-defense I would understand, but opening the floodgates and watching them get wiped out by mobs is a bit off-putting.

The zombie apocalypse fantasy is grounded in the idea of an unstoppable event, which even raises a new and valid question about the irony of fighting zombies: If the entire world's governments couldn't stop the zombie apocalypse from occurring, what makes people think that they can take them on in small groups or solo, especially with a majority of the world already dead, thus providing more zombies?

I actually like the concept of survival over the people you once knew to be sane. It can add a great back story. Zombie invasions are one of my favorite disaster scenarios.

That's how it could be.
A world of violence, struggle and survival.
I could just personally never even direct a knife at someone. It seems too scary, just knowing that you could end them, but I'm afraid one of the best things to do would be to kill them. To protect everyone else.

i know, i know, but usually most characters in various universes where there has been a zombie apocalypse fight off groups of zombies alone by themselves, but the military(aka the people with body armor, jet fighters, tanks, bombs, etc) couldn't just get to the source of it and prevent it from spreading

it's just really annoying to me how a single person who has to scavenge for good weaponry to use stands a better job than the freakin' military

Probably when an apocalypse happens, which is never.
In other words, people will never stop.
