Sgt. John "Sarge" O'Malley
Mech Commander for the "Colossus of War"
United States 7th Mechanized Infantry Division
UXI-88 or "Colossus of War"
Cantingy, France
May 28, 1918
6:30
15 Minutes Prior to "H Hour"
The massive engine powering your mech coughs to life.
The mech you have been given command over is one of the largest in the entire mechanized infantry group, second only to the 12th Mechanized's eight-legged ship "the Spider". The Colossus of War, as it is known, stands at 36 meters [or ~118 feet] tall. It has several cannons and machine guns situated in various positions at its viewport. An American flag has been painted on its chest. Right below it, in smaller letters, reads; "Prepare To Be Sarge'd!". A little humor to lighten the situation.
You and your squad of men load into the cramped control compartment and do your pre-run checks. This IS the first time this machine is being run. A small piece of paper is taped to one of the viewports, a message from your superiors. It reads simply:
"Don't scratch the paint."
You wait for the order to move out.
~
You have free choice in this RP. The outcome of what you do will be dictated on logic and dice rolls. Be serious, as what you do will be taken seriously.
This RP is a request from one person. Thus it will be for one person.
To begin simply say your first action.
You have the ability to become a footsoldier. This normally comes from the mech getting destroyed. Do not make mistakes intentionally though. The mech could explode and kill everyone within. Yea. This is deadly serious business.

| Do another weapons check, and make sure everything is ready one last time. |

(I could light a cigar in there, right?)
Question why nobody uses the last letter in every other damned word.
No, don't. Seriously, don't. Just wait for the order to begin. |

[You can light a cigar.]
You wait for the order to move out. It comes promptly at 6:45. A shrill whistle piercing the droning clank of the mechs engine.

Sarge lights a cigar, and gives the order to move out.
"Today is a good day to die..." he mutters, unnoticeable through the noise of the mech. |

The column of men and machine begins to move out. There is supposedly a town that the Krauts are quite determined to remain in. Despite being almost completely cut off from all support. Your job is to flush them out.
Biplanes report heavy artillery inside the town, along with several hundred men. There are unconfirmed rumors of a Kraut mech somewhere about. No one knows for sure.

Keep moving, and stay alert.
(i see no reason to do otherwise; why do you not do these things autonomously? but then it would just be a story, huh...) |

You proceed for a while. You see the town sitting down in a valley. Shortly after sighting the small village, small arms fire can be heard from farther ahead in the column. The Krauts appear to have sent out a scouting party for some reason, and they ran smack-dab in front of the column.
Your fellow soldiers below appear to be firing back. No word on how many losses, if any, on your side.

| Hm. Try to get word on what's going on down there. The force may be a bit bigger than reports indicated.. |

The radio operators appear to be a little bit tied up at the moment, having to engage in a firefight tends to do that.
You'll have to go see for yourself.

| Well, it's not like we can just drop down there. Send a scouting party of our own to get in and out fast as possible, and don't get dead. |

You decide to let down a scouting party. All non-mechanical elements of the column have rushed forward to deal with the issue. It should be resolved within a short time.
Now you wait.

A few minutes later the gunshots cease. Your scouting party comes back with the news. Supposedly a small squad of Krauts decided to go out and look for some supplies [food, ammunition, medicine, etc]. They had procured the objects of interest, but they had the great misfortune to, on the return trip, quite literally run in front of the column.
They were dealt with with few casualties, though it seems that a few of the Krauts managed to get away.

| Medevac the casualties, if possible. Hopefully, nothing else bad happens to the returning soldiers. Continue on to the town. |

The casualties were slight, just some shots glancing off the skin really. The column is soon moving towards the town once again.

Patch them up and move on, actually. Assuming they haven't left. |

The Med teams have already dealt with them. The column continues to move forward. You are nearing the town when you begin to hear the sounds of artillery fire. It seems that the surviving members of that Fritz scouting party have managed to relay your positions to the artillery inside the town.
However they were a bit late, as the shells fell behind your position. Though they will eventually find their range,
