I have gone through two years of school, with a crazy conservative teacher, and you want to know something? I'm sick of it. All of you who say this is a bad country, are wrong. People say were fat, were stupid, well we aren't!
In this country you have people of all genders, shapes, colors, attractions, and they're all accepted! In some countries, women aren't allowed to vote! In some countries, if they aren't straight! This country is the best one on earth, and you all dislike it because you wish to live in it.
This is the land of freedom and dreams, now go stop hating on America, for nothing, and go hate on the middle east for killing every American that steps on their soil.
Thanks.

"All of you who say this is a bad country, are wrong." +1
"People say were fat, were stupid, well we aren't!" Not going to argue about that stupidity thing, all countries have stupid people, and the media has probably only depicted this side. That fat-part is true, though, the obesity rates don't lie. That does NOT mean that every American is fat, nor am I saying so.
"In this country you have people of all genders, shapes, colors, attractions, and they're all accepted! In some countries, women aren't allowed to vote! In some countries, if they aren't straight!" +1
"This country is the best one on earth, and you all dislike it because you wish to live in it." Can you not. It isn't the best. Also, how are even defining 'best'?
"This is the land of freedom and dreams, now go stop hating on America, for nothing, and go hate on the middle east for killing every American that steps on their soil." I don't hate the US, I dislike some parts of the US, and not without a reason.

"This is the land of freedom"
22 million women are r_ped in the U.S. each year[1], excluding the ones unreported (only about 46% of sxual assault against women have been reported to authorities[2]).
Do you call that freedom? Do you call that safety?

@laFem How is that related to freedom? True freedom = being able to do what you want, where you want. Being s_ks'ually assaulted doesn't have anything related to this.

@mugge: Some regions are, some aren't. OP used some generalisations here and there, I agree.

You can't be serious.
A woman should be able to walk down a street without being catcalled by perverted men, without having to hold her keys between her knuckles "just in case", without having to be frowned at based on what she dresses.
Not having to experience that? Now -that- is true freedom. |

Sorry, but were not the best. Not everybody in the USA accepts everybody for who they are. Of course, we are a good country in general, with access to food, water, education, homes, etc... Were still not the best, but we are a great country. Thinking so highly of us is just, really, way too egotistical.

@lafem: "True freedom = being able to do what you want, where you want. Being s_ks'ually assaulted doesn't have anything related to this."
"You can't be serious." But I am.
"A woman should be able to walk down a street without being catcalled by perverted men, without having to hold her keys between her knuckles "just in case", without having to be frowned at based on what she dresses."
I call this failed logic. She has all the freedom to walk down the street, but they, the other people, have all freedom (in this scenario, then) to do such things. She has the option to get pointlessly mad, to ignore it or to say something back .. or .. w/e. And so what if somebody is frowning at you because you dress differently? You have the freedom to dress differently, she has the freedom to frown at you. Ignore, or go claw at her, I recommend the first one.
"Not having to experience that? Now -that- is true freedom." No. This is SAFETY-related, not FREEDOM-related. 2 very different things. In fact, at some parts you could argue that they are the opposite.
I hope you're a troll, I really do.

@LaFem,
That can happen anywhere. The government is not authorizing that. In some countries, the leaders are the ones doing that!
Israel is a good country, I meant the other ones, excuse me for not being clear. |

"more freedom than the US"
What country has more freedom then us?
Also, if were so stupid, poor, and fat, how come our military is the most successful?
Use some logic before you call a country terrible. |

"I call this failed logic. She has all the freedom to walk down the street, but they, the other people, have all freedom (in this scenario, then) to do such things."
With isn't true freedom.
free·dom [free-duhm] noun 1. the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint: He won his freedom after a retrial. 2. exemption from external control, interference, regulation, etc.
Women are confined by the social patriarchy that fetters them. Yes, ethically women have the right to walk down a street.
That doesn't mean she, by social definition, is 'free'.
She is not free because she has to live under fear of sxual harassment. That is not freedom.
She is not free because she is chastised and discouraged from dressing how she wants to dress. That is not freedom.
"She has the option to get pointlessly mad, to ignore it or to say something back .. or .. w/e."
That doesn't change the fact that it is sxual harassment, which is a socially manacling thing.
"And so what if somebody is frowning at you because you dress differently? You have the freedom to dress differently, she has the freedom to frown at you. Ignore, or go claw at her, I recommend the first one."
Which ability of 'freedom' is most harmful in this scenario?
What a woman should wear is designed by social constructs, something that we live and breathe.
You need to understand and accept the difference between being free under the law and being free under societal terms. |

"how come our military is the most successful" Tax? Government? Richest Country?
Or do those factors not exist anymore?
Also ... @Above

Also, I was more or less referring to the dress codes enforced in public elementary/secondary schools. |
