| So, lots of times, I'll get an idea for something to build, and I'll be really excited about it for like, a day, and after that, working on it becomes a chore and I eventually move on to something new. I am pretty good at building, but I am never able to apply my skills because I never really work on my projects for long. Does anybody have any tips on how to stay motivated? |

Listen to music or chat with a friend while building? Makes it feel less boring.
Build with the intention of selling? Money can be a great motivator.
I shouldn't really be giving advise though, because building completely bores me. |

Building is, unfortunately, a very daunting occupation. It takes a decent amount of patience to be able to finish projects, as well as the ability to vision what you wish to accomplish in the long run.
If you want to stay motivated, and are able to imagine what you want the whole project to look like finished, just work on completely different sections of the build depending on when you're bored or not. Any building project has very boring and repetitive tasks as well as entertaining, puzzling and rewarding tasks. It's up to you to be able to balance these tasks out. |

i liked the one above (listen to music)
but if that doesnt help you would also watch tv, and when commercials come on or a boring scene comes on you just build, so it doesnt seem like your just sitting there staring at a screen for hours.
another thing you can do is add the details that will make building really fun, when you see the little creatings that you make, it will motivate you more than anything else to build more.(if you wanna see the game im working on to see what im talking about just ask, you may get some ideas aswell)
but dont worry, losing intrest in something is totally normal, it even happens to the best, usually when you finish building your game, you wont wanna go back to it for some reason, thats why i dont like it when people ask you to play your game with them, and you say no and they think your crazy. but the key to being a good game builder is just to make it fun ;D |

| I have the exact same problem. I find it helps to make a very detailed list of exactly what you want FIRST in a script so that you can remember exactly what you were thinking of. When you get tired of the project just stop and take the game off your page. In a week, month, year, whenever you remember your old project and have more energy to do it, do it. This is how I've gotten close to finishing projects. (I've never made a full game because of this problem) |

@NeverH
that sometimes works, but sometimes when you make a script/list of all that your going to do, it sometimes will take away all the interesting cool and fun ideas that you think of while building, and keeps the game changing as you go along, keeping it interesting.
@Jon
this is the game i was talking about before, this is on my alt, if you wanna go into the game i can take the pay access off so you can get in, but right now ima leave it on so no one sees it before it is done, but if you wanna sneak a peak you can.

| @myles actually that's what makes me get bored of building something, when I have too many Ideas that change the game because then all the things I made just don't fit with each others styles. But I mean we are different people so |

@NeverH
You can never have to many ideas, that is what makes you motivated to get those new ideas fullfilled.
and dont take this the wrong way, but i have finished games that were Very detailed, and you said you have never finished a game ever. |

| @myles That is true though! I think I haven't finished a game yet partly because I have ADD and can't focus for very long but yea I'll probably try your method this time :P |
