which is crazy, because they might not be released until they're 77 if they get the maximum adult punishment
in which case, if it did happen, i'd feel kind of sorry for them - they would be living in solitude, most likely requiring mental help, and all for something they barely remember doing because they did it as preteens
i think the best course of action is seeing if they do need any sort of mental help- being locked up until they're senior citizens, just wow, that seems cruel. isn't knowing you did that to your friend punishment enough?

| If they're found to not have any mental problems then good, they should rot in jail. |

"isn't knowing you did that to your friend punishment enough?" Some people's moral compasses are all skewed. Its like that one time that girl who lived in the south su1cid3d and all the bullies where celebrating. Atleast I think it was from the southern states.

People who're found to have a mental problem are generally given shorter sentences, and sent to help.
It's not that I'm saying that they shouldn't be locked up forever, they probably won't if they're found to have a mental illness. |

well to be fair the part of their brain that controls judgement isn't nearly as developed as an adults considering their age
what they did was still wrong and messed up and they really should be getting more help mental-wise than being locked up that long

1. the girl that got stabbed is in a stable condition 2. this is a really tricky punishment because these are two 12 year old, likely insane girls. on the other hand, they planned this and didn't do it on impulse like an insane person might do. on the 3rd hand, there's a chance that they're not insane at all and they just believed a story they read online and freaked out 1000x.

Disappointing that people use mental illness as an escape from full punishment too. Adds to the stereotype that all/most mentally ill people are violent and are a danger to society

I agree. If someone's mental illness drives them to do such terrible things, they shouldn't be let back into society. Mental illness doesn't just go away, and coping strategies don't always work.
With people who suffer from mental illness, you'll never know if once they're let out, they won't just go and kill again.
It's kinda stupid, imo. |

| The only problem is that it is quite easy to fake a mental disorder. For all we know these girls just made up the whole slenderman thing and are playing the "mental disorder" game. |
